Khabib Nurmagomedov shocked the world when he announced his retirement after his victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, on the 24th of October, 2020. The Dagestani revealed at the post-fight interview that he wouldn’t be able to continue without his late father by the ringside and also that he had promised his mother that the fight with Justin Gaethje would be his last one.
However, there have been a lot of talks about Khabib making a comeback, ever since he retired, despite Khabib himself sticking to his decision. UFC President Dana White tried his shot at persuading Khabib to come back; as the pair met at Fight Island, earlier this year. With the meeting not going as Dana would have wanted to, the UFC boss has another meeting lined-up to give one last shot at convincing ‘The Eagle’ to come back.
More recently, Khabib Nurmagomedov caught up with former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta and posted a picture alongside him on Twitter. He also had a message for the current boss Dana White.
‘It was good to see you Lorenzo’ – Khabib Nurmagomedov
“It was good to see you Lorenzo. @danawhite send me location”, Khabib tweeted. It will be interesting too see how things take shape in the coming days, since only Khabib knows if he had meant his tweet or if he is just playing with the UFC president.
Khabib hasn’t yet vacated his UFC lightweight title. With a record of 29 wins and no losses, he is arguably the greatest fighter of all time. Given that he is only 32, the ‘Eagle’ definitely will have several years left in his ‘fight-tank’. However, only time will tell, if the Dagestani would come back.
