Meanwhile, many respected experts, including champion Sean O’Malley, expressed admiration for Makhachev, praising his composure, control, and technical brilliance throughout. O’Malley later shared enthusiastic thoughts on social media, claiming a potential showdown between Makhachev and Topuria would captivate global audiences.

Because of these changes, many believe Makhachev may never return to lightweight since welterweight now suits his physical attributes perfectly. Apart from Ilia Topuria, Makhachev has expressed interest in challenging Kamaru Usman to surpass his incredible welterweight title defense record.
