The UFC roster is home to many fighters known for their exceptional trash-talking skills. Rivalries and matchups between these fighters often serve as a platform for them to take shots at one another. However, in the lead-up to the UFC 312 fight, headliner Sean Strickland has been engaged in a back-and-forth with Khamzat Chimaev, who is not even scheduled to fight him this weekend.
The second UFC pay-per-view event (UFC 312) of 2025 is scheduled to take place in the vibrant country of Australia. Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland will face the reigning champion Dricus Du Plessis in the main event. In the days leading up to the fight, Strickland has already begun to attract attention within the UFC community. He has been taking verbal jabs at several fellow fighters.
In response, he faced harsh jabs from them. Notably, Chimaev has made several shots at Strickland’s traumatic past and upbringing. Interestingly, the American fighter was not raised in an ideal family environment; he suffered from his father’s brutal abuse and beatings. Amid the ongoing feud, Chimaev seized the opportunity to mock ‘Tarzan’ by referencing one of his viral emotional breakdown videos.

The UFC community is well aware of the ongoing animosity between Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev. For over a year, these two middleweight fighters have been engaged in a back-and-forth rivalry. Despite this conflict, both Strickland and Chimaev are contenders in the 185 lbs division.
Instead of facing Strickland, the Chechen fighter could have been competing against Dricus Du Plessis this weekend. However, it is Strickland who has received another title shot opportunity.
Dricus Du Plessis takes a sly dig at Sean Strickland’s alleged staph infection
Over the years, there have been many instances and clear cases of staph infections within the UFC community. These infections can range from minor skin issues to life-threatening illnesses. Despite this risk, UFC fighters continue to challenge their rivals in scheduled bouts. This situation can ultimately put even uninfected fighters in danger.

As a result, UFC CEO Dana White has consistently expressed his dissatisfaction with fighters who downplay the seriousness of their infections. With the UFC 312 event just a few days away, headliner Strickland was suspected of having a staph infection in his left arm. Interestingly, when his opponent, Dricus Du Plessis, saw that infection, he took a subtle jab at the ‘Tarzan.’

During the pre-fight press conference for the event, Strickland denied having a staph infection. By doing so, the American fighter dismissed one of the potential factors that could have led to changes in the main event bout. With that said, now it will be interesting to see if Strickland can avenge his previous loss to Du Plessis this weekend at UFC 312.
