Khamzat Chimaev has been out of MMA action since he won his last bout against Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. The delay in his comeback was a result of his bad health situation. However, this didn’t stop the fighter from allegedly mocking former UFC two-division champion Henry Cejudo.
Henry Cejudo recently sat down with Usman for a new episode of their Pound 4 Pound Podcast. During the conversation, Cejudo talked about meeting Khamzat Chimaev at the ticket counter of the Summer Olympics in Paris. As the UFC veteran shared the story, he revealed that he received disrespectful comments from the middleweight.
He was in the ticket line, I was outside trying to get my damn tickets. Then he sees me and he’s like, ‘Henry Cejudo, you’re a rat piece of sh*t.’ I had a feeling this dude kinda had it because he blocked me from all the social media stuff. I’m just like, ‘Why? Why am I a piece of sh*t?’ And he just said I’m a piece of sh*t.Henry Cejudo via Pound 4 Pound Podcast
Henry Cejudo mentioned he was with one of his friends, and Chimaev had a whole group around him. Both parties were around 50 feet apart when Chimaev decided to thrash Cejudo publicly. After the incident, Cejudo questioned Chimaev’s ability to handle trolls and criticism. ‘Triple C’ believed Chimaev lacked the emotional intelligence of an elite fighter.
Over the years, Chimaev has always been someone with a no-nonsense demeanor. The undefeated fighter doesn’t like to be disrespected and often has beef with other superstars. He has even gotten into a physical altercation with Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s team at UFC 280. Similarly, his dispute with Henry Cejudo seems to have a history.
When Henry Cejudo blamed Khamzat Chimaev’s training being the reason for him missing the weight
In 2022, Khamzat Chimaev could not make weight during the UFC 279 weigh-ins. At 178.5 pounds, he weighed 7.5 pounds above the welterweight limit set for his battle with Nate Diaz. Due to this weight miscalculation, the card was rearranged, and Chimaev ultimately squared off against Kevin Holland. Although Chimaev rag-dolled Holland to win the fight convincingly, he was heavily criticized.
After that fight, Chimaev returned to the middleweight division and defeated Kamaru Usman in his last bout. Henry Cejudo, a fan of the sport with years of experience, also shared his thoughts on the matter. According to Cejudo, Chimaev’s inability to make weight resulted from his inefficient training method.
He was vomiting, all that other stuff. I’ve been there before. He’s going to have to really tweak his training. He’s probably training too much and that’s allowing his metabolism to eat more. There’s a way of doing it where you can still make weight, still feel good, while you’re not overworking your body, because even though you’re working your body, you can also miss weight.Henry Cejudo via Halen Yee Sports
This might be one of the reasons that ticked Chimaev wrongly, which is the result of his animosity towards Cejudo. Nonetheless, ‘Borz’ is now scheduled to fight top middleweight Robert Whittaker at UFC 305. Given his latest trip to the hospital, fans are a little unsure about his commitment. All questions would be answered as the fight date comes closer.
