A few weeks ago, the US President surprised everyone by announcing a major White House event celebrating America’s 250th anniversary of Independence. Top global superstars like Conor McGregor and Jon Jones immediately expressed interest in participating. According to Khamzat Chimaev, he believes he has no chance since fans expect a mostly American-themed fight card.
Chimaev is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining and popular fighters on the current UFC roster with massive global appeal. He is also the betting favorite to win the middleweight championship and is preparing intensely ahead of UFC 319. In a recent interview, he was asked about possibly fighting at the White House event and gave a hilarious response.
Bro, look at my face. I don’t think they’ll let me come over there.

Chimaev had been struggling with visa issues for a long time and was therefore mostly fighting outside of the United States. There were many assumptions surrounding the matter, with fans often linking it to his ties with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Former champion Sean Strickland frequently mocked Chimaev for this situation, further escalating their already heated and ongoing personal feud.

Nevertheless, for the White House UFC event, fans are expecting a stacked fight card featuring mostly American superstars and legends. There were also concerns about Jon Jones fighting Tom Aspinall, as a potential loss wouldn’t reflect well on American pride. UFC CEO Dana White stated he plans to make the White House event the biggest and best in UFC history.
Khamzat Chimaev gets a serious threat ahead of UFC 319
Since his UFC debut, Khamzat Chimaev has showcased dominance, quickly gaining attention and making fans believe he’d become a future champion. However, recurring health issues and long periods of inactivity significantly slowed down his momentum.
In 2024, ‘Borz’ fell ill and was removed from the inaugural Saudi Arabia Fight Night card. Later, in a matter of months, he faced Robert Whittaker and brutalized him in the first round for the middleweight title shot. Nearly a year later, Chimaev is on the verge of realizing his championship dreams.

At UFC 319, he finally gets his long-awaited title shot and enters as the betting favorite against Dricus du Plessis. Ahead of the fight, both Chimaev and Du Plessis have exchanged multiple online jabs to build anticipation.
According to the Chechen fighter, his elite wrestling skills will be far too overwhelming for the current middleweight champion to handle. However, DDP remains unfazed by the trash talk and recently spoke in an interview about his unshakable confidence and mindset.
With my style that is a very controversial style in the UFC, unlike anything that most people have ever seen. It’s only a benefit because it’s proven to be effective. But then again, how do you prepare for that? And at the end of the day, that’s almost my niche. It’s impossible to prepare for me because I have this unique style…I’m the underdog, I’ve been the underdog for most of my career, yet I am the champion.

Du Plessis has a weird, unorthodox fighting style that often appears wild and reckless, confusing both opponents and analysts alike. Despite his awkward movement, he’s incredibly durable with elite-level cardio that allows him to push a relentless pace throughout the fight. Many experts have repeatedly doubted his technique and skill, but DDP consistently proves them wrong by always finding a way.
Du Plessis has already defended his middleweight title twice, dominating elite opponents like Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland. He deliberately asked to fight Khamzat Chimaev next, openly embracing the challenge and proving he’s not avoiding any contender unlike other champions. It will be interesting to see how DDP manages to tackle the Russians’ barrage in the early rounds.
