There is no doubt that middleweight title contender Khamzat Chimaev has made a big name for himself in the world of MMA. The dangerous Chechen fighter has quickly risen through the ranks and has always proved his hunger for the title.

Ever since his debut in the UFC, ‘Borz’ has expressed his desire to earn championship gold. This has come to fruition as he is set to challenge Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight championship at UFC 319. However, he recently also made a revelation regarding a missed title shot.

The Chechen superstar was seen talking to UFC legend and friend Daniel Cormier on the former double champion’s YouTube channel. However, the title contender made a shocking revelation when he revealed a title shot offer after his bloody battle against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273, which marked his last fight at welterweight.

Three years ago, I was gonna fight for the title after Gilbert Burns, I don’t know, I never ask, just give me the fight for the money.

Chimaev revealed that at that time, he did not care about the title fight and wanted to make money. His battle with Burns was the biggest test, as that was his first decision victory. However, after that, Borz was set to fight Nate Diaz, but failed to make weight.

This resulted in a catchweight bout against popular journeyman Kevin Holland, which he easily won. Since then, Chimaev moved up to 185 pounds, and challenged former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. A year later, the 31-year-old defeated former champion Robert Whittaker in a dominant display at UFC 308, which cemented his claim to the title.

These dominant displays against former champions and professionals are the reason for Chimaev’s popularity. His fighting style has proved to be dominant and powerful, comprising of explosive takedowns and high-level wrestling. The brute strength and control over his competitors have given him the edge and maintained his perfect record of 14 wins and 0 losses.

However, his latest fight at UFC 319 will be a test of utmost importance for the Chechen. His opponent, Du Plessis, himself is an undefeated champion with dominant performances against former champs in his resume. As such, Chimaev will look to finally get the championship gold to his name at UFC 319.

However, Cormier questioned Chimaev about his upcoming title fight, as the former double champ considers DDP to be underestimated. ‘DC’ also praised the champion for his explosive power and ability to come back from deep waters. Chimaev explained to DC that he doesn’t underestimate his opponents and he has “big respect” for DDP.

I am better wrestler, I am better striker. So there is no way he is going to do anything, not in striking, not in wrestling. I feel like I am the better fighter anyway.
