Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards has been scrapped for the second time!
It’s bad news for Khamzat Chimaev again, as the bout between himself and Leon Edwards has been scrapped for the second time. The reason, remains undisclosed, amidst great disappointment from the MMA community. The bout was first scheduled on the 19th of December, 2020, but it was scrapped off due to Leon Edwards suffering from COVID. The bout was later pushed to the 20th of January, 2021; to be held in Fight Island – which has been scrapped too! Although, the UFC is yet to release an official statement, the fight is all but off!
The news was first broken by Swedish MMA News Outlet, FrontKick. Taking to Twitter they claimed that Khamzat Chimaev was off the Jan 20th card. Much to the disappointment of fans around the world, they also revealed that it was unclear if the fight would be rebooked for a third time.
It is unclear if the fight will get rebooked for a third time!
“Khamzat Chimaev is in fact OFF the Jan 20th card. Sources confirm @KChimaev will no longer be fighting against @Leon_edwardsmma on #UFCFightIsland8. Reason undisclosed. At this point, it is unclear if the fight will get rebooked for a third time,” FRONTKICK tweeted.
This would definitely affect Khamzat Chimaev, as he was set to feature in his first main event, after dominating his first three opponents in the UFC. It is pretty sure that, ‘The Borz’ will now start hunting for a new opponent, as he has always been restless since his demolition of Gerald Meerschaert.
Who do you think Khamzat will face next?
Gerard Crispin
