Khamzat Chimaev has never been one to sell himself short on his mettle to get the job done. Amid voracious war cries of wanting to ‘smesh and kill’ the competition, ‘Borz’ finally challenges for gold on August 16, United Center in Chicago, Illinois. However, Chimaev is seemingly overpricing himself ahead of the much-anticipated UFC 319: Du Plessis vs. Chimaev PPV main event.

Borz is in full gear for his first-ever title shot, coming true; he meets the reigning UFC middleweight kingpin Dricus Du Plessis, who has plans to dominate for long. The berserkers and the banter between them has sold the hype fight itself. However, Khamzat Chimaev seemed to have missed out on a prime platform to promote his fight further, according to the streamer Adin Ross:

I connected with someone from Khamzat’s team and the guy said $700,000 to stream with Khamzat…I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. It was insane.

Hefty sum $700,000, for an appearance on Ross’s wildly successful channel is far too much in the social media, live streaming and podcasting industry. Many popular fighters have made successful media appearances on his channel (Kick.com/AdinLive).

In his victory speech, UFC CEO Dana White even made a nonsensical thanks to Ross for imparting media attention to the three-time GOP nominee ahead of the Presidential election. It would have been a good chance for Chimaev to do some last-minute advertising for his big fight at UFC 319 PPV. However, the Chechen fighter’s asking price was too high.

Some fans felt that stateside living and holding pre-fight camps have proven costlier than anticipated for the top fighter. For now, Adam Zubayraev for the ‘Hustle’ Vlog is Chimaev’s go-to pre-fight media attention.

His manager even made a guest appearance on the ‘JAXXON Podcast. While he did miss out on this huge promo for his fight, there are thoughts about the fight itself. What happens if Chimaev wins the middleweight gold?

MMA analyst explains Khamzat Chimaev becoming UFC Champ would be ‘disaster’ for the sport

Ahead of his first crack at the title at UFC 319, opinions on Khamzat Chimaev are a mixed bag of goodies. After his UFC on ABC 9 win, Reinier de Ridder shockingly claimed that Borz and his style are more ‘typical’ and easier to prep for.

Despite his array of explosive skillset and wrestling, fans have claimed that equal-parts berserker ‘Stillknocks’ has this in the bag due to better health and fewer pullouts/camp illness. ‘DDP by good shape’ to win this one, then?

Chimaev is widely popular with some 10 million IG followers. It’s a standout number, which surpasses even Israel Adesanya or Charles Oliveira. He has touted a massive international following and is one of the best PPV draws for the Combat Capital slots/Abu Dhabi DTC venues.

But Din Thomas is still pessimistic about him having regular ballot appearances and defending his gold. Given past withdrawals, it does not bode well.

If Khamzat wins, it’s a disaster…actually; You can’t tell me that a part of you is thinking, ‘This fight actually might not happen.’ … Some of these guys are just habitual in terms of not making it to the dance. If he does show up and he does win, do we trust him to be able to fight again? [For now] We need movement. I hate when it’s just static and there’s no movement in these divisions.

For the most part, Thomas presents that there should be action in the division. The roll was halted long for a thematic Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko trilogy. Then there’s ex-UFC heavyweight Jon Jones, who stalled his division for two years, not wanting to unify the gold. Chimaev, already infamous for habitual withdrawals, could add to it if he becomes middleweight champion.
