Former NBA star Lamar Odom and American media personality Khloe Kardashian were a power couple back in the day. They got married in 2009 after just a month of dating. What followed after that was a tumultuous relationship with the high-profile couple divorcing each other seven years later in 2016.

Their marriage was constantly marred by Odom’s drug addiction, overdose and infidelity. However, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star stood by his side and supported him even after filing for divorce.

In the new Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, Kardashian spoke about the time she caught Odom relapsing during his rehab.

Once you know the smell of crack, its the most identifiable, disgusting smell. I remember stopping by the house and I smelled crack. I remember slowly tiptoeing up the stairs. He was in his bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed and smoking crack. I just punched him in his face. I said, ‘I just put my life on hold to take care of you… By Monday, you need [to be] out of this house. I’m done. I’m not paying for a thing, and I never want to speak to you again.’

Many believed Lamar Odom had a successful career ahead of him when he was drafted into the NBA as a number four pick in the 1999 NBA draft. He played in the NBA for 14 seasons and lifted two NBA championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010.

However, Odom has had his fair share of struggles with substance abuse and alcohol addiction. He has been open about his issues with drugs and even about his pre-game rituals. He even opened about the time he nearly died in Las Vegas, where he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks during the incident.

While Kardashian and Odom have moved on from their divorce, it is clear that his drug addiction took a toll on their marriage as well. Odom is in a much better place today while Khloe has gone on to become a very successful household name and businesswoman.

While on paper, they were married for seven years, but it was anything but easy. She did file for a divorce earlier, but put it on hold to help Odom with his recovery. Unfortunately, he continued to relapse and it was the last straw for her.

Lamar Odom had three children with his former girlfriend Liza Morales. One child unfortunately died from sudden infant death syndrome. After their separation, he met Kardashian in a party hosted by his Lakers teammate, Ron Artest.

Their sudden decision to get married took everyone by surprise, including Morales and his two children. Odom did not share a good relationship with his two kids and hence, they skipped his wedding with Kardashian.

During their marriage, he used to make appearances on Keeping up with the Kardashians. However, his problems with drugs always held him back. Eventually, it even stopped him from finding his full potential on the court as well. His highest individual accolade is the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2011.
