The recent death of Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson was an unfortunate tragedy. To honor his memory, his former High School, Wise High in Upper Marlboro, Maryland held a candlelight vigil on Friday night. It was supposed to be a peaceful gathering and an opportunity for his kin to pay their respects to him.

Unfortunately, the night turned violent quickly after an unknown person opened fire in the parking lot. The shooting took place right after the vigil ended. A man was struck in the chest and a woman was hurt in her leg as a result of the shooting. According to Fox 5, the man was rushed to the hospital but eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The shooting was unexpected as the venue had plenty of law enforcement authorities who were working to ensure that the night went peacefully. The reason for the shooting remains unknown as of now, after all, it was an evening to remember Khyree Jackson, Anthony Lytton Jr., and Isaiah Hazel, who were his former teammates.

The late cornerback passed away a week earlier after he was involved in a fatal car crash. In the car sitting with him were 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel and 23-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr.. The crash took place after one Cori Clingman is suspected to have rammed his Infiniti into the rookie’s Charger while attempting to switch lanes.

He happened to be above the speed limit while he was doing this and was intoxicated as per initial reports. Right after the accident occurred, Khyree Jackson and Isaiah Hazel were declared dead on the spot whereas Anthony Lytton Jr. was critical and rushed to the nearest hospital. However, he did not survive and was declared dead at the hospital.

Jackson was the 108th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, a talented cornerback, but his path to becoming a professional was not easy. He earned a spot in Alabama and played for Nick Saban while making the all-Pac-12 first-team in his final year. It is unfortunate to see that the vigil organized in his memory did not go peacefully, there was no reason to open fire on this night. Unfortunately, that is what has become of the world today.
