A young fan at the Cincinnati Open held a poster expressing his desire to play with Iga Swiatek in the future during the World No. 1’s second-round match. The 23-year-old fought hard to claim a well-deserved victory against Varvara Gracheva and advance to the third round of the Masters 1000 event.

The Polish star arrived at Cincinnati seeking for fifth title of the season. After winning the French Open in June, she exited Wimbledon in the third round and failed to clinch gold at the Paris Olympics. In the end, she managed to win bronze for Poland at the Summer Games.

In her opening match at the Cincinnati Open, Swiatek seemed to be adjusting from clay to hard court. Though she won the opening set 6-0, Gracheva increased the tempo in the second set and rallied into the game from 2-5 down to win the second set in a tiebreak. Swiatek had to dig deep into her reserve to claim the ultimate victory 6-0, 6(8)-7, 6-2.

During the match, a young boy was seen with a poster expressing his wish to play with Swiatek in the mixed doubles in the future. Cincinnati posted the image of the young fan on their X page.

Swiatek will face Marta Kostyuk in the third round on Friday (August 16). She will hope to win the Cincinnati Open title after reaching the semifinals last year before losing in three sets to eventual champion Coco Gauff.

Iga Swiatek happy with her second-round performance at the Cincinnati Open despite still transitioning from clay to hard court

Iga Swiatek admitted that transitioning from clay to hard court was difficult after beating Varvara Gracheva in the second round at the Cincinnati Open. The Polish star has proven that she is a clay master this season. She won three titles on the surfaces as well as the Olympic bronze medal.

She decided to skip the Canadian Open this year. Playing in her first hard court match since before the clay swing in Cincinnati, she struggled to perform at her best but still found a way to win the match. She later admitted she was happy with her result.

Here’s the perfect place to do it. It feels a little bit less crazy. Here the transition is probably the hardest, from the slowest surface to the fastest surface. That’s why I’m still happy with my performance.

Iga Swiatek said (via Tennis Channel)

The Pole will be hoping for a good hard court preparation in Cincinnati ahead of the US Open, which gets underway on August 26.
