Olympic champion Noah Lyles is once again making headlines following a team’s championship win. After the Los Angeles Dodgers triumphed over the New York Yankees, Kike Hernandez called him out and trolled him.

Lyles found himself in hot waters when he took a shot at the NBA for using the term “World Champions” to describe their championship teams. This took place after the sprinter guided Team USA to gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 4×100 m relay during the World Athletics Championship in 2023.

World Champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong, I love the U.S., at times. But that ain’t the world … there ain’t no flags in the NBA.

Noah Lyles had said

These words were met with furious reactions from fans, former NBA stars, and even celebrities like Drake Following the Dodgers’ win on Wednesday night, a celebratory Hernandez threw shade at Lyles.

World Series Champions. S*** it Noah Lyles.

The MLB just like the NBA has been using the term “World Champions” for a long time. The championship-winning teams in MLB are also sometimes referred to as “World Series Champions“.

Kike Hernandez labels Dodgers postseason run as ‘legendary’ following World Series triumph

In Game 5, the Los Angeles Dodgers came from 5-0 down to win the game 7-6 and clinch the title. They became the first team in MLB postseason history to fall behind by five or more runs, erase that deficit, fall behind again, and yet still win the game. Enrique ‘Kike’ Hernandez would hail this postseason run of the Dodgers as ‘legendary‘.

After finishing with the best record in the league, the Dodgers got a bye and did not have to take part in the Wild Card series. In the NLDS against their bitter rivals, the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers found themselves 2-1 down in the best-of-five series.

They would come back from this deficit and turn the series around by winning Games 4 and 5. In the NLCS, they overcame a red-hot New York Mets 4-2 and went on to win the pennant. In the World Series, they dominated the Yankees and came away as 4-1 winners after taking a 3-0 series lead.

I really think that the Dodgers just went on a legendary postseason run. We weren’t supposed to be here. We had half our team hurt. We dealt, we went through a lot, and then we started the postseason beating the beating the best team in baseball in the Padres. Then we went we beat the hottest team in baseball in the Mets, and then we came here and we beat the mighty Yankees.

Hernandez will enter free agency in the offseason as his contract comes to an end. Before the start of the season, he penned down a one-year $4 million deal to rejoin the Dodgers and snubbed the Yankees, who were also interested in bringing him to the team.
