On Sunday night, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers reached a higher altitude and added another feather to his hat. James became just the second player in NBA history to reach 38,000 career points with his point performance against the Philadelphia 76ers. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the league’s all-time leading scorer, is the only other player to have ever done it. James needed 11 points to hit 38,000 before the game against Philadelphia, and he did so very quickly. Midway through the first quarter, he made the mark with a jump shot.

James is currently fewer than 400 points away from surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time greatest scorer, which is a remarkable accomplishment for anyone, let alone someone who has always viewed himself as a pass-first player. James will surpass the iconic Lakers center later this season, barring any serious injury difficulties.

The four-time NBA champion is on course to break the all-time mark in early February if his health holds up, averaging 29 points per game this season. With a 50.3 percent field goal percentage and a 28.5% three-point shooting percentage, he is the fifth highest scorer in the NBA in 2022–23. James is also averaging 8.4 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in his 20th season of professional basketball. The Lakers are currently in 13th place in the Western Conference rankings with a 19-23 record.

James is about to write history once more. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will shortly be surpassed by James as the NBA’s all-time top scorer, ending years of rumors, debate, and predicting models. James is currently playing in his 20th NBA season, but he doesn’t seem to be slowing down much.

He recently sat down in an interview with ESPN after his stellar performances that brought him within striking distance of the record. When asked where would he place this monumental achievement in his career he said, “I don’t know because I have not set out to do that — it wasn’t a goal of mine when I entered the league,”

James continued. “Making All-Star team, being Rookie of the Year, being First Team All-NBA, First Team All-Defense, winning a championship for sure, being MVP of the league (were goals). “The scoring record was never ever even thought of in my head because I’ve always been a pass-first guy. I’ve always loved the excitement of seeing the success of my teammates.” James’ ability to endure and consistently excel led to his smashing a scoring record that had stood for almost 40 years.
