King of Spain congratulates team after dominating victory over Costa Rica at 2022 FIFA World Cup; takes home Gavi jersey signed by all players

King Felipe VI and Gavi

King Felipe VI of Spain congratulated the national team after their win in the first match of the World Cup and took home a Gavi shirt signed by all the players. The king said that the team’s victory was a source of pride for all Spaniards and that he was looking forward to following their progress in the tournament.

He also praised the work of the Spanish Football Federation in preparing the team for the World Cup. Gavi scored against Costa Rica in a Group E encounter at the Al Thumama stadium in Doha to set a new World Cup record for Spain’s earliest goal scorer. He has just turned 18 years old and 110 days.

Gavi is now the youngest player to score in the quadrennial championship since Brazilian great Pelé, who did so in the 1958 final against Sweden at the age of 17 years and 249 days. Mexico’s Manuel Rosas scored against Argentina in 1930 to become the second-youngest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history.

Costa Rica is humiliated by Spain’s seven goals at 2022 FIFA World Cup

Spain

The 2022 FIFA World Cup has begun, and Luis Enrique’s team has already established their supremacy against Costa Rica. Dani Olmo scored the opening goal for the 2010 World Cup champions in just 11 minutes thanks to a well-planned buildup and a goal that was also well-executed. In the 21st minute, Marco Asension gave La Roja a 2-0 advantage after Jordi Alba’s lovely cutback found Asensio in the box with plenty of room to score.

Spain won the penalty after Alba was fouled in the box in the 31st minute, and Ferran Torres converted from the spot. In the second half, Torres scored his second goal of the game with a deft finish in a challenging circumstance. Torres was able to turn the ball and score from close range because Bryan Oviedo failed to intercept his run.

In the 74th minute, Gavi volleyed the ball from just inside the box to score Spain’s fifth goal—a visually appealing goal. Carlos Soler added another goal in the 90th minute after shooting the ball from close range. Alvaro Morata also scored a wonderful goal in stoppage time to bring the score to seven goals. He did this by cutting inside the defender’s shoulder to reach the ball threaded by Olmo.
