FC Barcelona have been in the transfer market for a winger ever since the start of the window. The club have spent the majority of the window pursuing Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams. Despite their best efforts, the Spanish winger ended up rejecting Barcelona and took the No. 10 at the club.
As the club’s focus shifted to Luis Diaz and then Federico Chiesa and others, a name that popped up alongside was Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman. However, latest reports suggest that the club are set to miss out on the Frenchman after interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
The Saudi club have submitted their proposal to sign the player, with Bayern ready to accept. Even though there is no confirmation as to the Frenchman agreeing terms, he is believed to be more inclined to join the defending Saudi Arabian champions.
There is also interest from Premier League club Liverpool, although it is appears that Federico Chiesa is their primary target. After joining Bayern in 2015, the forward has made 296 appearances, scoring 64 goals and winning several domestic and European trophies in the process. Coman is contractually bound to Bayern till 2027 and the club will consider letting him go for a fee in the region of €40-€50 million.
Al-Hilal complete the signing of former Barcelona and Manchester City man Joao Cancelo
Despite FC Barcelona‘s best efforts to retain Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo, the Portuguese full-back has returned to the Etihad. The 30-year-old does not fit in Pep Guardiola‘s plans for the new season and was looking to force a move away from the club. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Tuesday that Cancelo will join the Saudi for a €25 million fee.
The player has put pen to paper on a contract which will keep him at the club till 2027 and is expected to earn around €15 million per year. Cancelo enjoyed an extremely successful spell at Man City before falling out with Guardiola a few seasons ago. He has won the Premier League thrice with the Cityzens from 2020 to 2023.
Several fans have commented that Al-Hilal will become unstoppable with their recent signings. This in turn will affect Cristiano Ronaldo and Al-Nassr’s chances of winning the League title. The Faris Najd recently missed out on the Saudi Super Cup after losing the final to Al-Hilal by four goals to one. As things stand, Al-Hilal are currently fourth in the table and one point behind Al-Nassr even though the defending champions have a game in hand.
