Despite the constant criticism, Brock Purdy has come a long way from being the last-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft to rank among the top 30 Players of this year. Kirk Cousins, who is coming off a serious ACL injury, had some high words for the quarterback.
Joined in by Nick Bosa and Deebo Samuel Sr., the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback finally made his debut in the list of Top 100 Players of 2024. He earned his place on the list at 28th rank after leading his team to make a run for the Super Bowl LVIII, while dominating the NFC altogether. Having that said, Purdy also broke the reputation of ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ and became– as his peers defined him “very relevant.”
One of whom was the Atlanta Falcons’ newly acquired Cousins as he showered the third-year quarterback with high praise upon being enlisted among the top 30 players of this year. He believes Purdy has great potential and he’ll rise above all those criticisms with time.
I think he’s doing everything the great quarterbacks in this league do. I mean, he’s making the explosive plays, he’s making plays off-schedule, he’s accurate. I think his best football is ahead of him.Kirk Cousins to Brock Purdy in the NFL Top 100 video
Cousins also recalled an interaction with Purdy after a game against the 49ers, where he literally complimented the opposing quarterback by comparing himself with him, saying he never managed or played football the way Purdy did in his second year.
Brock Purdy faces criticism after tough practice
While Purdy is establishing his place among the top athletes, the criticism doesn’t seem to leave his side. After a stellar season, the quarterback appears to have had a bad day at a practice session last month– the first red zone practice session where he recorded three interceptions and allowed the defense to dominate the field.
Although it was a practice session in which it is common to make such mistakes in order to avoid making one in the regular season, fans and his critics didn’t seem to view that angle. One of those was sports analyst Nick Wright, who claimed the downfall of Purdy had begun and it would only go downhill.
Wright opposes the notion that the quarterback’s performance from last year will improve in 2024 and claims that he has reached his extent and will disappoint the team and fans in the coming season, based on his practice sessions.
