Kirk Cousins could be playing in a different attire in the next season as reports indicate the Atlanta Falcons are willing to trade him if he struggles to deliver in the last six games. Kirk Cousins, who joined the Falcons earlier this year, started eleven games for the current NFC South leader.
The Falcons had a missed season this year, starting with a loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1. They bounced back to six wins with a dominating win over the Dallas Cowboys, followed by a two-game slide. The Falcons lost two successive games 20-17 and 38-6 against the New Orleans Saints and the Denver Broncos respectively.
In their weekly column earlier this week, ESPN’s Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler highlighted Kirk Cousins’ current situation with Atlanta.
“The next six games could determine a lot about Cousins’ future. He had shown the ability to get hot, throwing for at least three touchdowns in three of his first nine games with the Falcons before the recent two-game slide. I expect Atlanta to have a defined plan for Cousins that maximizes the passing game coming off the bye. But to your point, the results have been pretty good but not optimal.”
In the first season with the Falcons, Cousins had proved that he was still a formidable quarterback at the age of 36. In 11 games, Cousins had racked up 17 touchdowns for 2,807 yards, ninth-most for most passing TDs this season. Cousins threw for four TDs in a game twice this season, both against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers securing important wins for the team. However, he has thrown nine interceptions, twice in two games.
Jeremy Fowler, however, admitted that the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders aren’t options for Cousins. He went on to express that the player will remain in Atlanta if he plays to the mark if the next six games go well.
Luckily for Atlanta, it doesn’t have to do anything right now. And Cousins very well could remain in a Falcons uniform if the next six games go well.

Despite signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract this offseason, it’s evident Atlanta is already preparing for a future beyond him. In a surprising move during last year’s NFL Draft, the Falcons selected Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick.
Kirk Cousins is ready for the Los Angeles Chargers after a recharging bye week at Saugatuck
Kirk Cousins took a trip up ahead to his native town of Saugatuck, known for its cozy lake vibes. He Cousins admittedly ruminated on his future and the past games sitting around the bonfire with people close to him.
Cousins, via Amna Subhan, noted that being a quarterback comes with certain mental pressures. He, who described himself as a perfectionist, ensures that he continues to work on himself both physically and mentally.
“I think quarterback is such a mental position, certainly. I think there’s always something you can learn and glean. It helps to just have good communication and get good input. I do know how long the NFL season is with 17 games and the need on the bye week to kind of recharge so that you are ready for whatever games you have left. So, I kept reminding myself of that this past week, and I thought it was a great week. That was a great week for me, for my family”
The Atlanta Falcons play the Los Angeles Chargers (7-4) this week at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Georgia. Cousins and the gang would be looking forward to reclaiming their lost identity and making playoffs for the first time in six years.
