Kirk Cousins snatched the Atlanta Flacons’ first win of the season right under the Philadelphia Eagles’ nose. In the last drive of the play, the Falcons were down by 6 points with under 1 minute left until the final whistle.

It began when the Falcons drew an encroachment penalty, but the Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, declined to challenge it. The Eagles running back Saquon Barkley then dropped the ball on 4th & 3 and possession switched back to the Falcons.

Cousins led the final drive into the Eagles 10-yard line and stepped back to throw the ball right to Drake London, who received the pass without any corner pressure. London’s 6th catch and 7-yard touchdown became the deciding factor on the night.

The cameras zoomed in on Falcons #5 as his expression screamed what was going through his mind. It was truly a moment to savor for the away side. Raheem Morris’ team has dominated the tie in recent years, but this was a special occasion as they won with a completely new quarterback room.

Kirk Cousins ended the day with 20/29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Bijan Robinson had 97 yards on 14 carries and wide receiver Darnell Mooney had 88 yards and a touchdown from 3 receptions.

As for the Eagles, quarterback Jalen Hurts recorded 23/28 for 183 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Saquon Barkley finished with 22 carries for 95 yards, while receiver DeVonta Smith added 76 yards and one touchdown from 7 receptions.

Kirk Cousins vows to come back stronger despite the win over Eagles

After securing his first win as a Falcons player, Cousins spoke with the media. Instead of the cheerful individual that fans love, the veteran was critical of himself.

He highlighted that there’s still much work left to do.

I am still not sharp enough. I feel like I wasn’t sharp enough today, accurate enough; I gotta be better, but the last drive hopefully can give us a boost going into next week. We can build on that. You know it’s a lot of new, and it takes time. I was pleased with the way we finished tonight, but there’s still so much to be better with.

There were exciting scenes from the Falcons’ locker room. Coach Morris was doused with Gatorade and even presented with the match ball for orchestrating the game-winning touchdown.

Up next, the Falcons have their biggest test yet. They will travel to Arrowhead and play against the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
