It is remarkable how the fate of a franchise can turn in a matter of six months. The Minnesota Vikings traded six-year quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons and started Sam Darnold in his place. The former arrived in Atlanta with much hype as the team had a budding offense with a good wide receiver in Drake London and a solid tight end in Kyle Pitts. However, the Falcons’ season has not gone the way they had envisioned it to.

Through 14 weeks, the Minnesota Vikings are thriving as they rank 2nd in the NFC North with an 11-2 record while the Atlanta Falcons who had hoped to be a Super Bowl-caliber team are 6-7. The team’s primary struggle has come from the man they had hoped would take this offense to the next level.

Kirk Cousins returned to Minnesota and unsurprisingly the crowd booed him despite his contributions to the franchise. That was disheartening but perhaps not as much as his performance. The quarterback loves the Vikings so much he chose to throw the ball to his former teammates in the purple.

This has led to the team’s fanbase calling for him to be benched and for the team to give backup rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. a chance to see how he fares. Here’s how the fans reacted to Cousins’ performance on X:

It has been concerning to see Cousins struggle with interceptions. Despite their underwhelming performance, the Falcons are still in the run-up to make the playoffs. However, at this rate, they are likely to get knocked out in the first round.
