“First player to ever podcast his way onto a team!” – Knicks sending FIVE 1st round picks for Mikal Bridges to team up with Jalen Brunson has internet in flames

Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges

The New York Knicks tried their best last season to reach the Eastern Conference Finals. But injuries and exhaustion led them to lose to the Indiana Pacers. Since then, all the talk was about how they could make their team better without losing anyone from their core. The Knicks, armed with draft capital, made a stunning trade to reunite Brooklyn Nets star Mikal Bridges with his former Villanova Wildcats teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo.

Mikal Bridges is a good to great scorer and can defend the perimeter well. Both attributes that the New York Knicks lacked sorely after injuries curtailed their playoff run. The addition suggests the team is all in to go after an NBA title.

However, what shocked many was what the Knicks had to give up reuniting the NCAA Championship-winning Villanova Wildcats. Four unprotected first-round picks, one protected first-round pick via the Milwaukee Bucks, an unprotected pick swap, and a second-round pick.

It is an exceedingly steep price for a player who has averaged more than 20 points per game only once in his entire NBA career. However, Bridges will seamlessly align with his former Wildcats teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo. Therefore, the chemistry that won the Quartet two NCAA titles will not be in short supply.

This also gives them breathing room and allows their other players time to recover from injuries. More importantly, it will help them share the load during the regular season. All in a bid to be fresh come playoff time.

Fans set internet on fire seeing what Knicks gave up for Mikal Bridges

A healthy New York Knicks are on the cusp of challenging for the NBA title. Last season’s trade for OG Anunoby helped them elevate their game. But knowing how difficult it could be in the playoffs, the Knicks did not want to take any chances.

With this trade, they now have six stars in their prime. That is enough ammunition to go up against the new NBA Champions, the Boston Celtics.

But they gave up their future to make this happen. That is what fans have had trouble wrapping their heads around with. They were vocal about how this could impact the Knicks in the long run. Check out some of their examples below;

Hopefully, this trade pans out both for the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks. That is, the Nets can rebuild, and the Knicks could win their first NBA title in more than 50 years. However, if it does not, then the Knicks will not have any draft capital to look forward to.
