As he attempted to win a record third consecutive championship, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was the favorite to win MVP of Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. However, by the conclusion of the first half, the records he was setting barely reflected his excellence. Mahomes was nowhere near his best during one of the most important games of the season.
He and his side were outclassed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday as they lost by 40-22 in the final. Not only that, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl MVP. Notably, before the game, Mahomes was being compared to NFL legend, Tom Brady. However, the NBA and New York Knick star, Josh Hart was quick to put those ‘Brady comparisons’ to bed after the Chiefs lost.

However, Mahomes has been one of the most influential players for the Chiefs. In addition, the QB likened this Super Bowl LIX loss to the thrashing his Chiefs suffered at the hands of Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. It’s important to note that Mahomes led Kansas City to three Super Bowls in four seasons.

All said and done, Mahomes’ quest for an unprecedented 3-peat remains unsolved. Even if winning two straight titles is difficult, a three-peat is uncommon in all major sports. There have been 14 occasions in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and WNBA where a team has won three consecutive championships. The last club to accomplish a three-peat was the NBA side, Los Angeles Lakers from 2000 to 2002.
Patrick Mahomes offers clear response in Super Bowl LIX loss
The Kansas City Chiefs did not stand a chance against the Philadelphia Eagles in this year’s Super Bowl. In addition, it’s safe to say that the Eagles have been the best team all season. Notably, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes had a poor showing in the final. However, he did take the blame for the loss and shed some light after the game.
According to Adam Teicher, Mahomes accepted blame for the loss. His three turnovers—including a pick-six by Cooper DeJean and a pass interference by Zach Baun played a big part. This resulted in a touchdown by AJ Brown on the very next play. No matter the things he did, this game was determined long before the first whistle blew.

The Eagles had a stronger roster, more depth, and more offensive potential. The blowout seen in the game revealed the true might of the Eagles. Nevertheless, Mahomes vows to come back stronger next season and showcase to the world his immense talent. The NFL star is only 29 years old and still has a lot of games left in him.
