Kobe Bryant was known for his 'mamba' mentality

The late Kobe Bryant was one of the NBA’s finest players, known for his relentless work ethic and never-give-up attitude. Recently, a leaked tape of Bryant trash-talking his former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Jeremy Lin during a 2014 practice has been making waves in the NBA community.

In the video circulating online, Bryant is seen mocking Lin after a tough practice session. Frustrated with the team’s effort, Bryant berates Lin and his teammates, trying to push them to perform better. However, Bryant eventually becomes irritated and labels Lin “too soft” before leaving the practice session in disappointment.

He don't want it, he don't want it, this motherf**er cant do sh*t. You ain’t got sh*t on me. Motherf***er cant even shoot. F***er didn't even want to shoot that Sh*t. F*cker don’t want no problems with me.

This was Bryant’s way of motivating his teammates, but it didn’t work this time, as they weren’t performing up to his standards during the practice session.

Former player Nick Young had asserted how Bryant was pissed off with Lin after a practice session. So much so that Bryant never spoke to Lin for the whole season, giving him the silent treatment which left Lin disheartened. Bryant was known for his tough approach and did not tolerate any slacking of his teammates, in-game and during practice.

Jeremy Lin opened up on his first practice session with Kobe Bryant

The late Kobe Bryant was one of the NBA’s most respected players at the time. Jeremy Lin had the opportunity to play alongside Bryant during the 2014-15 NBA season. Bryant and Lin had a tumultuous relationship as teammates, with many back-and-forth disagreements.

The Taiwanese star recalled his experience with Bryant and discussed his first team workout. Lin opened up on the Awaken Training Podcast, which is hosted by Jeremy Lin’s trainer, Josh Fan.

We did 50 minutes of defense, we didn't touch the ball. It was defensive stances, closeouts, turning your hips, and full-court slides. For 50 minutes. At the end, he was like, 'Everybody makes 10 transition threes, and then we're gonna call it.' I was like, 'What just happened?’"

It’s important to note that Lin claimed he had no idea how crucial defense was before training with Bryant and the Lakers. He still remembers his first practice session with the Lakers and how it helped him focus on his defensive game. This is a clear example of how a star like Bryant played a crucial role in enhancing his teammates’ performance.
