Kobe Bryant once wiped tactics off white board and asked Lakers teammates to throw him the ball

Caron Butler and Kobe Bryant

Late Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was known for his various antics in the NBA, both on and off the court. Recently, his former teammate Caron Butler recalled one such incident on the OG’s Podcast involving Bryant and the Lakers during a particular game. Butler was both amazed and shocked as he witnessed Bryant’s heroics.

Appearing alongside Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, Butler claimed that during a game against the Charlotte Bobcats, Kobe Bryant wiped all the tactics off the whiteboard during halftime. Bryant then told his Lakers teammates to throw him the ball and let him do his job, which, to everyone’s surprise, worked out perfectly.

The time we was in Charlotte, whoever our coach was at the time (Frank Hamblen), he was drawing up the play. Kobe just kind of wiped the board real quick and he was like, 'Hey, who the f*** want to be part of history?' Lamar (Odom) was like, 'S***, I want to be part of history.' He's like, 'Alright, you take the ball out. I'mma get open right here, throw it to me. Everybody run out the damn tunnel. Game.' Nobody knew where to go on the court, Just like, he's going to catch it somewhere right here, just get the f*** out of the way… And that's what happened.

The Mamba was spot-on with his words against the Charlotte Bobcats. In fact, Bryant had been a major disappointment in the first three quarters of that game, shooting 4–12 from the floor and scoring just 11 points. Then in the last quarter, he took over the show, just like he had so many times in his career.

Kobe Bryant’s views on how to be an “effective leader”

Kobe Bryant has to be one of the most disciplined players the NBA has ever witnessed in its history. Bryant was also an ideal proper leader on and off the court in his playing days. Interestingly, in a discussion with the Alabama football team in 2018, Bryant shared his views on how to be an effective leader for the young players growing in the sport.

To be an effective leader, you have to be a really good listener and not to what's being said, but to what's not being said. You have to be really observant. That was a big transition for me. I went from being a scorer and a floor general ...To being a leader and that meant putting others first. That means not worrying about are you in rhythm, are you playing well in this game, are you ready to go, to being, are you ready? What can I do to help them be ready.

In his 20-year NBA career, Bryant set the stage alight in the NBA, winning back-to-back championships in 2009-2010 and three-peat with Shaq from 2000-2002. He was one of the prominent leaders in the Los Angeles Lakers side back then. Whenever someone is looking for any kind of inspiration in sports, they can always look up to players like Kobe Bryant.
