Lamar Odom recalls how Kobe Bryant helped him out of his financial hardships

The two-time NBA champion, Lamar Odom, has been a fan favorite for all the wrong reasons. Off the court, he is even more famous for his string of high-profile incident like marrying a Kardashian and dealing with gambling addiction and substance abuse, crack to be precise. And when he was in a hole, he recalled that his former teammate and the Laker legend, late great Kobe Bryant, came to his rescue.

During an interview with Bootleg Kev, Lamar aka The Goods got candid about his tumultuous past and post-retirement years. From Khloe Kardashian to his drug use, Lam Lam appeared to be an open book. However, one particular moment from the interview stuck a chord with the fans of late NBA legend, Kobe Bryant. The 45-year-old retired athlete confessed that after retirement he took gambling as a vice to pass time, but it soon turned into a catastrophe

This instance speaks to Kobe’s character as a friend and a teammate. Helping a retired teammate out of his gambling hole isn’t something fans get to hear about every day. Odom revealed that his debt was upwards of a million dollars, probably a couple of million, and that he later paid Mamba back in full.

While this interview with DJ Bootleg Kev from two years ago was certainly revealing, Odom sometimes shares more than necessary during these hours’ long podcasts. While conversating with the host Aron Cohen on The LADE Show, Odom bizarrely disclosed that he used to “always j**k off” as his pre-game ritual.

Lamar Odom recalls Kobe once telling him, “Yo! I’m better than Mike”

When Lamar Odom appeared on The LADE Show alongside Ron Artest, they couldn’t help but trade Kobe stories. As both former Lakers reminisced about their late teammate, Odom shared a story about when Kobe boldly stated to him, “I’m better than Mike.” After hitting a game-winner, Kobe got on the bus and let it be known that he was second to none.

We were on a bus one night. I think this is when after he hit this nice game-winner against Milwaukee. My n**ga come on the bus and say in front of me, he says, “Yo! I am better than Mike”… I was like, ‘You better than Mike? That’s how you feeling?’

Ron Artest also recalled a similar incident when he got a rare call from the Mamba. The motive behind the call? To dispute Artest’s take about Michael Jordan being number one. Kobe didn’t stop there—he even argued as to why he made a strong case to be the best over MJ.
