Lou Williams is not impressed with Nikola Jokic's monster numbers

Nikola Jokic has been on a tear this season, putting up monster number’s night in night out. Those numbers are not only helping him stay at the top of the MVP race, but his Denver Nuggets are also rising up the Western Conference ladder.

Since coming back from the birth of his second child, Nikola Jokic has been on a tear. His performances helped the Denver Nuggets to a 17-6 record that now sees them fourth in the West. Their last game against the Sacramento Kings showed how dominating he can be.

His 35 points, 22 rebounds, and 17 assists performance continued to prove that he is the frontrunner in the MVP race. However, Kobe Bryant‘s former teammate Lou Williams isn’t impressed. He believes the way the team runs makes it easy for the Serbian to put up such monster numbers.

I love what he’s doing, these are some big-time numbers. And it is leading to wins. Here’s my argument Chandler, is he doing this out of necessity. Does he have to put up these types of numbers for them to win?

Lou Williams said

He added to his argument that it is unlike Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who puts up numbers along with his teammates. Since the Nuggets offense runs through Jokic, he will end up with such elite statistics as opposed to others. But this statement left his colleagues, Chandler Parsons and Michelle Beadle stunned.

They could not understand how Williams could suggest that Nikola Jokic was allegedly stat padding. But then, the three-time Sixth Man of the Year adamantly suggested that this way the center is gaining the edge in the MVP race. However, his colleagues felt that being the focus makes Jokic the MVP of his team.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads Nikola Jokic in MVP race

To most of the panel of Run it Back, the MVP so far is Nikola Jokic. But it seems the KIA MVP Ladder seems to agree with Lou Williams. They currently have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the No. 1 spot with the Serbian a close second.

Naturally, the MVP race gets influenced by team seeding. In this case, the Oklahoma City Thunder are now the joint best team in the league. The Nuggets in comparison are seventh best. Last season, they were tied, but the center was far ahead of the Thunder star in the race.

This season, Gilgeous-Alexander has taken his game up a notch. Therefore, if both teams end up tying again, the race could come down to individual statistics. If that happens, it will be difficult to ignore all the numbers the big Serbian has been putting up.
