Koeman wants Barcelona to sign a new striker, in the winter transfer window

Koeman admits his team need to score more goals. He urged the club to sign a new striker in January.

Ronald Koeman’s Barcelona laboured to a 1-0 victory against Huesca. SD Huesca are the bottom placed team in the division and a more convincing display was expected from Barcelona.

Frenkie De Jong scored for Barcelona from a Messi assist, who was back in action after an ankle injury. The match marked Messi’s 750th appearance for the club and 500th in La Liga. Koeman’s men are now fifth in the table, 10 points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who have played one game fewer.

Barcelona in the market for a new striker

Martin Braithwaite has failed to score goals recently

Ronald Koeman said Barcelona were missing a target forward as they scored just once from 20 shots on goal , and called for the club to sign a new striker.

“I trust each player in our squad,” Koeman told reporters. “But if we choose to have three midfielders there is room for three forwards.

“With Leo we bet on someone with great depth like Dembele, and we have to choose between Martin or Antoine at the top and Martin has done it.

“It’s a nine that we’re missing in these games but it doesn’t mean anything in regards to Antoine’s substitution. We have a lot of games and we need all the players.

“We have said several times, at the beginning of the season and need someone at the top to have more competition and goals, more effectiveness, but this depends on many things.”

Barcelona got rid of Suarez for free this summer. The decision to let go of the striker will now hurt Barcelona even more as he has scored 9 goals in the league.  The tally leaves him tied with Gerard Moreno and Iago Aspas as the most prolific scorers in the current campaign. Koeman has urged Barcelona to find someone of his caliber to solve his team’s goal scoring problems on the pitch.
