Amidst the reports that Messi wants to leave Barcelona, the newly-appointed manager Ronald Koeman wants him to stay. The manager suggests the Argentine should be a part of his team for a few more years and work his magic for the better of the club. Ronald Koeman was appointed as a successor to Quique Setien when he was sacked after falling short of Real Madrid in La Liga and a shameful loss against Bayern Munich in Champions League.
Barca’s effort continues to make Messi stay
Bartomeu clearly stated the fact that they would be transferring some stars if required but will hold on to key individuals. One of them being Messi, but the star player is now looking for the exit from Camp Nou. But the new manager has some other plans in his mind and wants the skipper to stay.
Koeman will be looking forward to building along with the club’s long-time star and will hope for the best glory. “I don’t know if I have to convince Messi or not,” stated Koeman in his introductory speech. To the best interest of the fans, he also said: “You want to have the best in the world in your team, not the opposite.”
Messi has a contract with Barca till 2021 and Koeman wants him to play in the team till then and hopefully in the future as well. He also said: “What I talk to Messi, there are private things between player and coach. We will talk about what he thinks of Barcelona and then I will make decisions.”
The Argentine was once again the standout performer for the Catalans this season with 21 assists and 25 goals. It will be interesting to see how Koeman approaches his former club and how will Messi progress in his career at this turning point.
