Even half a decade later, KofiMania continues to be one of WWE’s most wholesome and compelling stories ever told. Kofi Kingston finally achieved his life-long dream in 2019 of becoming WWE Champion after defeating the dastardly heel, Daniel Bryan (now known as Bryan Danielson), at the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania.

In an interview with In The Kliq, Kofi Kingston expressed his appreciation for the American Dragon. He called Danielson one of the top five greatest wrestlers of all time. He was incredibly resilient, even coming back after a career-ending neck injury. Furthermore, Danielson was never someone who sought credit for his contributions to professional wrestling.

Danielson was a major reason that Kingston’s match for the WWE Championship even happened. He was always one who listened to the audience, and they clearly wanted to see the Ghanaian wrestler on top. However, one would never see him telling people that. The New Day member said that it was never Danielson’s motive to advocate for him solely to later take credit for it or have any other selfish reasons behind it.

I know he had gone to bat for me to be in that position, because that’s what the people wanted. So I know he was a very big advocate of that, and he’ll never tell you that, he’ll never brag about that, because that’s not what his like purpose in doing that was. It was just about doing the right thing.

The former Money in the Bank winner did so only because he wanted the best product for the fans. Thankfully, he was able to make the match happen and give fans an unforgettable moment. After all, Danielson’s brain for professional wrestling has been praised by many.

Tony Khan has even stated in the past that if something were to happen to him, he wanted the Owen Hart Cup winner to be put in charge. Now that he is retired, seeing him take charge of the company after the current AEW CEO may not be too far away.

Kofi Kingston draws comparison to his story with Bryan Danielson

During the same interview, Kofi Kingston talked about how his story was very similar to that of Bryan Danielson. In 2013, the former AEW World Champion was seen as the ultimate underdog of WWE. In the storyline, and even in reality, he was repeatedly told by authority figures that he wasn’t good enough to be a top guy.

Kingston ended up in the same spot in 2019. In an incredibly ironic situation, this time, it was Danielson who was on the other side of the fence, bringing people down. Telling storylines like these and watching them unfold in the squared circle is what professional wrestling is about. Both of them got their moment at WrestleMania and etched it in history forever.

he fact that he was in the same shoes that I was in a couple of years ago when the corporate mega heads were telling him that he wasn’t good enough, that he wasn’t he was a B-plus player, and now he’s on the other side as a champion, saying all those naturally things to me.

Going from the Yes! Movement to KofiMania was a natural transition. The 43-year-old continued to shower praise on his former rival. He said that there was no better opponent that he could have faced at that time. Furthermore, he was very smooth in the ring, a world-class performer, and a stand-up guy.
