Emma Raducanu put in a good performance to beat Peyton Stearns in the second round of the Korea Open. The Brit desperately needed a win to get back on track after a disappointing US Open early. However, it will not be an easy task for the British star, when she faces Yue Yuan in the second round.
Yuan, who reached the final of the WTA 500 event in Seoul, has enjoyed a better record than Raducanu this year. She has won one title this season and reached her first Masters 1000 quarterfinals at Indian Wells. The 25-year-old beat Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse to earn a place in the second round in Seoul.

Emma Raducanu vs. Yue Yuan: Match Preview
Emma Raducanu struggled earlier in the season after being away from the WTA Tour for almost a year. She tried to find her rhythm and eventually found some form at the Stuttgart Open, where she reached her first quarterfinals, before eventually losing to Iga Swiatek. She flourished during the grass swing, reaching the semifinals of the Nottingham Open.
Raducanu got to the fourth round of Wimbledon but fell to a disappointing three-set loss against Australian qualifier Lulu Sun. In the North American hard court season, she skipped the Canadian and Cincinnati Open after she failed to earn a wildcard at both events.
Without a professional match for over three weeks, she lost to Sofia Kenin in the first round of the US Open. However, at the Korea Open, she hopes to turn things around after beating Peyton Stearns 7-6(4), 7-6(5).
On the other hand, Yue Yuan has enjoyed arguably her career-best season. The World No.40 began the year losing in the first round of the Australian. However, at Indian Wells, she shocked the tennis world. Yuan stunned her fellow compatriot Qinwen Zheng in the third round before beating Daria Kasatkina in the Round of 16. After earning her first Top 10 win, she lost to Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals.
It was at the WTA 250 event in Austin, Texas, that the Chinese achieved their first silverware of the year. She beat her fellow compatriot Wang Xiyu 6-4, 7-6(4) to lift the title. This year, she fell short at Grand Slams, losing in the first round of all four events. At the Korea Open, she came from behind to beat Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

This will be the first career meeting between Raducanu and Yuan. While Raducanu has a better win percentage than Yuan this season, the Chinese player prevails with a 21-11 record on hard courts compared to Raducanu’s 8-7.
Whilst Yuan is last year’s finalist, Raducanu also has a good record at the Korea Open. She reached the quarterfinals of the event in 2022 before losing to Magda Linette. The British star has struggled to play consistently on the court. Since her grass season exploits, she has failed to impress. Yuan, who has a better record on the hard court, will be looking forward to earning her first win over the World No. 70.
