IPL 2021: Krunal Pandya’s bat gets broken by a Kyle Jamieson delivery; Twitter reacts

Krunal Pandya
The Indian Premier League (IPL) began today with the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After the 2020 edition of the tournament took place in the UAE, this year marks a homecoming for the tournament albeit with no fans and strict bio-bubble protocols along with a caravan format.
In the first match, RCB won the toss and chose to field first. They decided to hand debuts to the likes of Rajat Patidar, Dan Christian, Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson. MI on the other hand, handed debuts to Chris Lynn due to Quinton de Kock being unavailable and Marco Jansen getting the nod. The first innings then lived up to the hype as both sides traded blows with each other.

In the 19th over of MI”s innings bowled by Kyle Jamieson, Krunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard were looking to produce the fireworks to ensure they finished on a high. However, the New Zealand bowler kept it tight in the initial part of the over. He then overstepped giving Krunal an opportunity to free his arms off a free hit.
Jamieson however, nailed the yorker off the free hit and ensured that it was a dot ball. Further, Krunal’s bat was broken in half by the yorker as well. The pressure built in the over paid off in the final over as Harshal Patel came up with as many as three wickets to get his five-wicket haul and restrict MI to 159.
