Kurt Angle holds a significant place in John Cena‘s career. The latter even made his WWE debut against the Olympic gold medalist. Naturally, when the Hall of Famer decided to retire, he hoped for a rematch with the Cenation Leader at WrestleMania. Unfortunately, this dream never materialized, and he faced Baron Corbin in his retirement match instead.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Kurt Angle was asked if he would ever like to step out of retirement for this one match. The American Hero responded by saying that he couldn’t physically wrestle anymore. He narrated an anecdote of him trying to wrestle about two months ago for a CBS commercial, which allowed him to have this realization.

Angle recorded an NFL pre-game commercial where he was pretending to be the Steelers and Kyle Brandt was pretending to be the Ravens. The two had a pro wrestling match, where the former King of the Ring had to take some bumps. He threw his back out during the shoot and was unable to walk after that. His wife prohibited him from ever stepping back into a ring following this incident.

Because if I get in the ring and I start beating myself up, I’ll never heal. I could just walk in there cold and have a match with him, but then I would probably regret it when I was done.

Angle admitted that perhaps getting into the ring was not the best of ideas. However, he did have a lot of fun doing so. He said that he would love to wrestle Cena during his retirement tour, which recently kicked off on the debut episode of Raw Netflix. He had tremendous respect for the Hollywood superstar and wanted to be the one to retire him. However, he believed that he no longer had the physical capabilities of doing so.

The Undertaker believes John Cena’s retirement tour is the perfect way to say goodbye

While there have been several ‘retirement tours’ in professional wrestling, it has never been done involving a superstar as huge as John Cena. The Undertaker seems to be a huge fan of this idea by his former rival, which he recently expressed during his Six Feet Under podcast.

The Demon from Death Valley thought that Cena was going to have a great year. It was going to be similar to how NBA legends get their flowers from each town that they visit during their final year. The erstwhile Doctor of Thuganomics was a workhorse and one of the company’s biggest stars for years on end. It is very cool to have something like this laid out for him.

They’ve got a certain amount of dates he’s gonna make, certain amount of Premium Live Events he’s gonna make, and it’s gonna give people a chance to give him his flowers, give him his props, let him say goodbye. It’s a cool way of doing it.

The Undertaker did say that he expected nothing crazy to come out of this tour. Sure, Cena might get some big wins and a few losses here and there. He said that he was not sure where this idea of an year-long goodbye came from, but he expected it to be the norm for professional wrestlers in upcoming years.
