Kyle Freeland did not hold back on Tuesday. Following his ejection from the game against the San Francisco Giants, the Colorado Rockies pitcher blasted Rafael Devers and claimed that his actions, which led to the huge benches-clearing brawl, were “extremely disrespectful”.

Things got heated between the two players in the first inning of the game at Coors Field. After working a 0-2 count at the top of the 1st, Devers would launch a 2-run home run into right field off an 83 mph sweeper pitch.

The 3-time MLB All-Star would stare at the pitch and take a while to round of the bases. This was something that did not sit well with Freeland. The Rockies’ starting pitching would get involved in a war of words with Devers. Moments later, the benches would get clear, and players from both teams rushed onto the field.

Devers’ teammate Willy Adames and Matt Chapman would rush to his aid and got into the face with Freeland. Chapman was reported to have shoved him during the altercation. After the situation cooled down, the umpires would come together and discuss what had unfolded.

They would then toss Freeland, Adames, and Chapman from the game and allowed Devers to round off the bases, almost 10 minutes after his home run. Following the game, Freeland took a dig at Devers. The 32-year-old was unhappy with the way Devers acted after his home run against him.

Extremely disrespectful to show me up like that in the first inning after hitting a home run. Standing there, watching it, taking your sweet time getting down to first base. I’ve been in this league quite some time, and I know he has as well. I just find that extremely disrespectful, and I felt that I needed to let him know about that.

Kyle Freeland told the reporters after the game

Freeland also admitted that he was a bit surprised to see himself get ejected from the game. However, he would then express that he was the one who instigated the situation.

While Freeland took the mound for his team in this game, Logan Webb was the starting pitcher for the Giants. He would throw 5 innings and pick up 7 strikeouts while giving up 2 runs.

After the game, he was asked about the situation that took place in the first inning. The right-handed pitcher would claim that Freeland “runs his mouth” a lot.

I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before with that guy. He runs his mouth a lot. Rafi got him good.

Logan Webb told the reporters

Antonio Senzatela would come in and pitch after the Rockies starter was ejected. Freeland was charged with the loss from this game, which turned out to be his 14th loss of the year.

This loss was also the Rockies’ 100th loss of the year. After 139 games, the team has a 39-100 record and needs to win 3 more games from their remaining 27 matches to avoid having the worst record in MLB history.

As for the Giants, this was their 9th win in their last 10 games. The 70-69 Giants are currently 5 games behind the New York Mets for the third and final wild card position following this 7-4 win on Tuesday.
