The 2025 NASCAR Cup season is going to witness drivers taking a new approach to racing over the new rules being introduced. Most important rule update, among the many, is the waiver rules. The new rule has put more restrictions on eligibility and the waiver comes with deduction of all the playoff points the drivers have earned.

One driver who is going to get in a tough spot owing to the rule change is Kyle Larson, who had to use the waiver last year after missing the Coke 600 during the Indy 500 double duty attempt. He shared his feelings about the new rule change in an interview with Sportsnaut and admitted that he isn’t expecting to get in trouble over the rule change.

It is what it is. It’s probably going to come into play more for people getting suspended for doing stupid stuff on the track rather than a weather delay at Indianapolis. Hopefully the weather is better in Indy this year and it’s other people getting in trouble and I won’t have to worry about the waiver. Really, hopefully no one has to worry about that.

Kyle Larson told Sportsnaut.

But he does see some other driver getting in trouble, as the waiver for race suspension also involves the deduction of playoff points. So, Larson sees this as an aggressive change and asserted that the only way to get over it is prioritizing NASCAR alongside racing clean.

It’s a very aggressive rule change. Yeah. Abide by the rules. Be a clean racer. Calm racer. Make NASCAR your priority and you’ll be fine.

NASCAR insider explains how the rule change would impact Kyle Larson

Senior NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass has shared his feelings about how the new rule is going to affect Kyle Larson. He pointed out that the No:5 HMS driver can’t afford miss the Coke 600 like he did last season as the deduction of playoff points would ruin his championship chances.

The rule also would impact Kyle Larson in his Indy 500 attempt. If he didn’t get back to start the Cup race in Charlotte, he would forfeit all playoff points. That certainly hurts drivers hoping to do the double, something which NASCAR should embrace, but it was obvious last year that NASCAR for some reason doesn’t want to play second fiddle.

Bob Pockrass said.

The comments from Pockrass also shows, NASCAR didn’t want to play the second fiddle in the Double and they are right to make the call. It would be interesting to see how the waiver rule change is going to affect the whole team and drivers going forward.
