One of the major topics of debate in the NASCAR community throughout the 2025 season, alongside the lawsuit, was the playoffs format. The majority wanted the sanctioning body to scrap the system and go back to the original full-season points format. Hendrick Motorsports’ reigning champion Kyle Larson is one of them.
Kyle Larson not only wants the premier stock car racing series to end the format, he also has no plans to have the same for his own racing series. When asked about prospects of High Limit Racing, the Sprint car series he co-owns with brother in law Brad Sweet, adopting a NASCAR style playoffs, he asserted that it doesn’t belong there. He isn’t even ready to have the late model playoffs, which is a better model than NASCAR’s.
I would hope, and I’m pretty certain, that will never happen in sprint car racing. Like, even the late model playoff that they have, I think, is better than what we have in NASCAR, but still it’s not like, I don’t know.
Kyle Larson said via High Limit Room podcast.
He does have a clear reason for the decision and it’s the unfairness of the winner taking all the system. One race win should never overshadow the dominance another driver showed the whole season. The veteran racer also believes the dirt racing scene doesn’t need manufactured excitement.
It’s not fair. Or not the fairest way. To me, it doesn’t even really add that much excitement at all to a dirt season. So, no. No, there will be no playoff or winner-take-all sort of thing.
Kyle Larson added.
Furthermore, the two times champion admitted that he is hoping to see NASCAR going back to its original format eventually. It’s what the fans and the majority of the racing community wants to see happening. He refused to talk much about the drama as he doesn’t want to get in trouble over his words.
Hopefully, I think, even in NASCAR, I hope we’re done with the winner-take-all, it sounds like. So, yeah, fans don’t have to worry about that. I don’t want to keep going on because I’ll get myself in trouble talking.
Kyle Larson asserted.
Spire Motorsports enters Kyle Larson’s sprint car series
Within a handful of years, High Limit has become one of the best Sprint car racing series in the USA and they have attracted some big names to the series. The latest addition to the list is Spire Motorsports, one of the fastest growing teams in NASCAR.

The series’ elite standing wasn’t the only reason that inspired Spire owner Jeff Dickerson to make the entry as his relationship with the leadership of the series played a major role. He sees this as racing with his friends in a championship that is more transparent than most in the motorsports scene.
I think with what Brad and Kyle are doing and with the amount of transparency that they show, obviously, I’ve got longstanding relationships with both of them. Add in J.P. (Josh Peterman) and Kendra and a lot of people around High Limit, and you know, we want to go racing with our friends. … You just want to do it with people that you enjoy being with. That’s certainly the High Limit series.
Jeff Dickerson said.
It’s a major investment coming into the series and they are going to attract more fans, if the likes of Carson Hocevar decided to make selected stars. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to play out in the coming years for ten series as well as Spire Motorsports.
