Hendrick Motorsports’ 2021 Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is considered the best racer in the current garage and one of the best in his generation. But one narrative that is hurting his legacy is claims that he is racing just for money. Now the Chevy racer, nicknamed “young money”, has shared his thoughts on these claims.

The veteran admitted that narrative over money still bugs him a lot. Ahead of the 2025 season finale, where he is set to fight Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe and William Byron for the Bill France Cup, the veteran addressed these claims. Kyle Larson slammed the narrative and asserted that he is in NASCAR due to the love he has for the sport.

Something that’s bugged me throughout my whole career is that everybody just assumes I’m here for the money, and that’s not the case at all. I would not be here if I did not want to be a NASCAR. I love the sport — I love what it provides, but I love what I’m doing.

Kyle Larson said via Fox Sports.

He pointed out that he would have ended his NSCAR career long ago for Sprint cars, if he didn’t have enough passion and love for premium stock car racing. The No:5 Chevy driver is happy with a decade long career he had in the sport and is determined to race for wins in the Cup as long as he can.

If I wanted to go race sprint cars full time, I would have done that a long time ago. Even Cliff, he asks me all the time, ‘How long do you think you’re gonna do this?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know, a long time.’ So, I’m happy doing what I’m doing. And I’ve always been happy being in NASCAR. I’ve been in it for 12 something years.

Kyle Larson added.

He then backed his argument by highlighting his return in 2021, after getting suspended for using racially insensitive language in 2020. Kyle Larson came back because he loved the sport and wanted to prove himself. At the same time, he hasn’t stopped racing in the sprint cars as he is racing in more non-NASCAR events every year.

f I wasn’t having fun, I’d be gone. I would have not tried to come back in 2020. … For me, I get to compete in NASCAR, and I love doing that. And I also get to compete in 30 to 40 sprint car races a year.

Kyle Larson asserted.

Kyle Larson is coming into the 2025 finale with more confidence that ever

Coming into this year’s finale, Kyle Larson is more excited that ever over his chances. He believes the team has gotten the next-gen era cars right in the flat short tracks and this gives him more confidence about the car.

This is probably the best I’ve felt about what we’re bringing for Final Four compared to any other year. I think finally, in the Next Gen era, we’ve gotten our short track stuff better, short flat track package better…so yeah.

Kyle Larson said.

Further talking about the point, the veteran racer highlighted how the cars were pretty string for them in the short tracks, as he gave New Hampshire and Gateway as example. He feels this si the better opportunity he has had to win the title in the Next-Gen era.

We went to Gateway and were super strong. New Hampshire, we were really good, and Phoenix is somewhat similar to those places, so I think we’ll have a better opportunity to win a championship than we’ve ever had in the Next-Gen era.

Kyle Larson added.

The comment from the HMS seems pretty rational and something that gives his fandom a lot of hopes going into the weekend. It would be interesting to see if Rick Hendrick’s drivers can win the title or Joe Gibbs’ racers can finally win their first title since 2019.
