Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson is widely considered one of the most talented racers in the world and he has proved himself for many years, with two Cup championships as well as 32 race wins to his name. Going into the 2026 season he has one goal, defend his championship taking advantage of the new playoffs format that rewards consistency more.
The most dominant year of Kyle Larson’s racing career was the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, where he won the championship on his debut season with HMS with 10 wins to his name, including the season finale. It was a dream come true moment for the veteran as well as a redemption from the controversies of the 2020 season.
It was a great season. We won 10 races that year. And then, to cap it off with the championship at Phoenix was just a dream come true. And kind of celebrating with your team. The moment of all that was amazing.

According to the future Hall of Famer, the championship finale win of the 2021 season was the coolest moment of his racing career, especially in NASCAR. He failed to relive the moment last season, as he couldn’t finish P1 in the finale, as 2023 Cup champion Ryan Blaney stole the win, with the No:5 team winning the title as they were the best car in the championship-4.
And I know I’m with a great team, so I’ve got a good opportunity every year to relive that feeling. But it just takes a lot of hard work. But that championship is definitely one of the coolest moments of my career, but definitely the coolest in NASCAR.

Kyle Larson explains the advantage of being an HMS driver
In the same conversation, the veteran racer also shared his thoughts on how good it is to race for HMS, the best team in NASCAR history. He pointed out that being around the best leaders and crew in the sport, with significant resources is a special feeling.

Yeah, I mean it’s the best it’s the best organization, you know, leading, you know, all the records and stuff. So, it’s really great for me to get to race with Rick Hendrick and you have great leaders like Jeff Gordon and Jeff Andrews and Chad Canals, you know, leading the team and um you having all the resources that you need to go to, you know, try and compete for wins and championships.
Kyle Larson said.
Furthermore, he admitted that he finds himself lucky to be part of the team and asserted that he wants to reaming with the team for many more years, to compete for more championships. He knows in an HMS Chevy, the driver always has a shot at winning the race.
So, I’m very lucky and fortunate to be in the position I am. And you know, I just uh hope that I could be here a long time and win lots more races and hopefully a couple more championships along the way…You know, I think with Hendrick Motorsports, you always feel like you have a chance to win when you go to the racetrack.
Kyle Larson added.
The team and the new playoffs format are the perfect set up for Kyle Larson to thrive in the sport. He has the opportunity to produce a dominant run like Jimmie Johnson in the 2000s. It would be interesting to see how everything will playout for the No:5 team in 2026 and beyond.
