One of the most talked about breaking news from the NASCAR garage was the new racing deal veteran Kasey Kahne signed with Spire Motorsports. The racer decided to end his almost a decade long hiatus to make a return to full-time race, driving Jeff Dickerson’s team in the Truck Series, a championship where he won all but one race he started.

The decision shocked everyone in the community, including Kyle Larson. The defending champion talked about learning about the news while scrolling Facebook. He called it the most shocking news of the weekend, asserted that he had never expected the veteran racer to make a full-time comeback.

I actually thought the more shocking news of the weekend, though, was Kasey Kahne full-time Truck Series. I was more shocked about that. I was never expecting to be a full-time anything.

Kyle Larson said on Corey LaJoie’s podcast.

The veteran revealed that when he first saw social media post announcing the Kasey Kahne news, he thought it was AI. Kyle Larson then texted the legendary racer, asking him if the news was true and only believes when the ex-HMS racer revealed it’s true.

Well, I don’t have Twitter, so I’m on Facebook. I’m like scrolling. I’m like, ‘Oh, I see that. Oh, it’s funny. You know, it’s Kasey Kahne Friday.’ Like somebody made a funny AI thing. I scroll some more. I’m seeing a few different posts. I’m like, no way… Yeah, I did (Texted Kahane). I was like, is this for real? He’s like, yeah, man, I’m excited.

Kyle Larson wants NASCAR rule on rear-view cameras

In the same podcast, the defending NASCAR champion discussed one key issue with the Next-Gen car. The aero-blocking has become a major eyesore during the Cup Series races and having digital rear-view mirrors made it easier for the leading driver to defend, unlike in the past.

Rear-view cameras, so when the Next Gen first came out, I did not run it for the first year or two, maybe. I tried it a handful of times and the depth perception of it, I wasn’t comfortable with it. I just remember, like, I felt really aware of my surroundings with my mirrors, and then with the digital mirror, I just felt like I was late on making moves.

Kyle Larson said.

This has inspired many to call for a ban on digital camera, and go back the use of rear-view mirrors. The defending Cup Series champion is open to the sport making regulations limiting or restricting the use of them devices.

I didn’t really know how close they were to my rear bumper. But since I’ve committed to it, I’ve gotten a lot better at it. And now I’m comfortable with it, but yes, it does make blocking way easier… And I mean, this mirror is vibrating in the car. You can’t really like tell exactly where they are, how close they are, stuff like that, where the digital mirror is locked in solid. It’s HD. You can literally see their hands and their eyes. It’s that clear. Yeah, if they made a rule, I’m cool with it.

Kyle Larson added.

The comments from the veteran seem to be on point and the NASCAR community needs to take some notes. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the upcoming days.
