Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar found himself in the middle of controversies after the Nashville Superspeedway race. He wrecked Hyak Motorsports’ Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the second stage of the race, in an incident that was clearly avoidable. Many in the racing community has called out the Chevy driver and warned him about consequences.

Ex-NASCAR Cup Series racer Kyle Petty, who has been one of the biggest supporters of Carson Hocevar when he is getting criticized, has yet again come to the youngster’s defense. When the No:77 Chevy driver secured P2 at Coca-Cola 600, Petty predicted emergence of the new superstar, and he was over the moon when it didn’t take more than one race for Hocevar to prove he is right.

I’m gonna pat myself on the back a little bit. I said last week that Carson Hocevar was going to be an emerging star. Little did I know that he was gonna come back the next week and prove it to you guys. He can run up front and do it. Yes, he ruffled some feathers and that’s one thing I wanna talk about.

Kyle Petty said via NASCAR’s YouTube channel.

He then explained what he thinks is Hocevar’s goals in NASCAR. He wants to win races, championships and not make friends. The youngster wants to consistently be competitive, wants to run upfront and he won’t hesitate to ruffle feathers, like he has been doing from his debut race, to achieve these targets.

Listen, this fascinates me. From the time Carson Hocevar showed up in NASCAR, he’s been ruffling feathers for two reasons: he shows up not to make friends, to win races. No. 2, that’s all he cares about. All he wants to do is run up front. All he wants to do is be a NASCAR Cup Series star, and he is well on his way.

Spire Motorsports’ co-owner left un-impressed by Carson Hocevar

One of the major reasons for criticisms against Hocevar for the Nashville wreck was the fact that he could have easily avoid the incident. Even the co-owner of Spire, Jeff Dickerson, wasn’t impressed with it. On his appearance in the Door Bumper Clear podcast, he admitted that Hocevar should have given Stenhouse Jr. a break.

Here’s what I said. Man, you didn’t need to do that. You just didn’t need to do that. It wasn’t going to cost him anything to let Ricky back in line. I just wish he would have cut him a break. I have a personal relationship with Ricky. And so, I don’t want that to cloud it.

Jeff Dickerson said.

He asserted that one day, when he matures as a racer, the current Chevy driver will regret making such aggressive moves. Dickerson doesn’t want that to happen to his driver or any other young driver, hence wants them to be more focussed on racing etiquette.

There’s plenty of times I go to Carson. I’m just like, ’35-year-old Carson is not gonna be cool with what you just did or what you just said’… It’s like… They’re too young to know that it’s cool to be like ‘Man! I f— that up…’ And that’s where I wish they would help themselves more.

Jeff Dickerson added.

The comments from Dickerson Hocevar made the wrong choices at Nashville and his post-race comments should have been better. It would be interesting to see how the Hocevar saga is going to playout, amidst the retaliation threats.
