The 2024 campaign couldn’t even come close to what the San Francisco 49ers had hoped for as they fell significantly short of the expectations set after their Super Bowl appearance last season. Amid the challenging 5-7 season, there have been countless rumors concerning the future of head coach Kyle Shanahan, despite the players’ attempt to dismiss the speculations.
Shanahan’s name has been linked vigorously to the Chicago Bears, especially following the firing of Bears head coach Matt Eberflus. The rumors intensified in the wake of the 49ers’ three-game losing streak. However, with a commanding 38-13 victory, head coach Shanahan demonstrated his commitment to San Francisco and finally addressed the ongoing chatters around the league about his job security.
In the post-game press conference, Shanahan gave rest to all the speculations and rumors linking him to the Windy City next year. With emphatic conviction, he declared that he envisions his future only with San Francisco.

The 49ers are standing at a 6-7 season record currently, which is one win less than their rivals, Arizona Cardinals. On a much brighter side, there is still a glimpse of hope in the Niners’ chances of qualifying for the playoffs if the top-ranked NFC West club Seattle Seahawks tumbled in the remaining few weeks and lost the divisional title.
If the Niners are able to pull off victories in the remaining four weeks, their chances of clinching a playoff berth would solidify, and they could potentially win the NFC West twice in a row.
John Lynch dismisses Kyle Shanahan hot seat rumors as “comical”
Following the much-needed victory of Week 14, the 49ers General Manager John Lynch also discussed the rumors about Shanahan being on the hot seat. He claimed to have found the rumors “rather comical,” given the success the team had under Shanahan’s leadership.
After hearing both GM Lynch and head coach Shanahan, it appears the 49ers aren’t questioning the credibility of the latter over a bad season, which majorly struggled due to the injuries on the roster. Perhaps, Shanahan’s stint in San Francisco isn’t over yet as he plans to come next season more prepared.
