San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa left their latest game early. The injury was seemingly due to an aggravation of the hip injury that had already placed him on the injury report.

However, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan clarified after the game that Bosa is dealing with a new injury. The injury could mean more trouble for the Niners, who were handed a setback by division rivals the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Super Bowl runners-up find themselves with a 5-5 record, despite Christian McCaffrey returning to the squad.

Nick Bosa was listed as questionable for the game due to a hip injury. Despite this, he started the game and performed well. However, in the third quarter, he sustained an injury, exited the field limping, and did not return for the remainder of the game.

According to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, Bosa’s new injury is to the oblique on the opposite side of his previously reported hip issue. Shanahan was speaking to reporters post the game when the topic of Bosa’s injury came up post-game.

I think it was a different one. The other one. Not hip, oblique.

Kyle Shanahan told reporters

The Seahawks scored two touchdowns after Bosa left. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed that the absence of Bosa didn’t spark the Seahawks’ game-winning drive while admitting that the defense missed Bosa.

I thought we had a couple of opportunities to get to [Smith]. I think we did get a sack or two on that last drive, but him getting those two scrambles killed us.

Kyle Shanahan added

Before leaving the field, Bosa managed to grab one sack of Geno Smith. He delivered four tackles, two solo stops, and nailed two ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage. Bosa also pounded two QB hits of the Seahawks’ QB1. In 2024, Bosa has a total tackle count of 36 with seven sacks and one forced fumble.

Earlier in the season, Bosa was listed as questionable following a rib injury. Ahead of the Los Angeles Rams game in Week 3, Bosa was reported to have picked up an injury while practicing. The latest injury comes amid the player receiving a hefty fine for his post-game MAGA celebration.

Nick Bosa expresses frustration at missing the most important time in a game

The San Francisco 49ers weren’t in the best shape against the Seahawks. Nevertheless, the final defensive drive could have limited their division rivals and helped claimed the top spot in the NFC West. The 49ers have hurt their playoff chances in a tight division, despite possessing an elite mentality roster including Brock Purdy, McCaffrey, and George Kittle among others.

The game could have gone in the Niners’ favor. Bosa recollected watching the game from the sidelines amid a post-match interview. He expressed frustration over being helpless in a moment where his presence could have altered the result.

Brutal, brutal. The most important time in a game for me to be out there, and I wasn’t able to be. I hate missing time; that’s why I pushed through last week, and hopefully it’s not too long.

Nick Bosa told reporters

The pass rusher believes that overcompensating for his original injury on Sunday led to the recent injury on the opposite side. Looking ahead, Bosa plans to assess how he feels on Monday and is hopeful that he won’t miss much time. However, there is concern that his availability for the next game may be at risk.
