According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy is expected to return to the field against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday amid a shoulder injury. The San Francisco 49ers are in a tough spot in the NFC West with a 5-6 start to the season.

The San Francisco 49ers suffered their second straight loss last week against the Green Bay Packers. A dominating Packers took advantage of backup QB Brandon Allen whose three turnovers all resulted in touchdowns. However, the offense and signal calling weren’t the only issues with the Niners on the fateful evening. There were potential interceptions that the Niners dropped while there was also a dropped pass from Deebo Samuel. In terms of defense, there were 20 missed tackles.

Nonetheless, all hope is not lost for the 49ers. The Niners, although last in the league, are just a game away from the division leaders Seattle Seahawks. Brock Purdy returning to the field in an important game is a relief for the suffering 49ers.

On Friday, Purdy talked with the media for the first time since the Seahawks game. He revealed that he underwent an MRI on Monday following the game, which showed no serious damage. He experienced discomfort during practice on the same Thursday, prompting a second MRI. However, Purdy informed he felt like himself while throwing on last practice.

Speaking to the reporters, Shanahan confirmed the news. However, he did admit that things could go wrong in the span of a day.

Lots of things can happen between now and then. But right now he’s playing. He’s doing good. Had a good day.

The San Francisco 49ers have a tough task ahead of them. The Buffalo Bills are one of the top contenders in the AFC with a 9-2 record. The Bills, who have a home advantage, are also looking forward to clinching their division with five weeks to go in the league.

Despite Brock Purdy returning, the 49ers still are missing some key players

Despite having Brock Purdy back in the mix, the San Francisco side is still reeling from several big names on the injury list. Nick Bosa (hip/oblique), Trent Williams (ankle), Aaron Banks (concussion), and Jordan Elliott (concussion) all remain ruled out.

Kyle Shanahan admitted that it takes time to heal. He went on to add that the timeline hasn’t been kind to the team either.

We understand kind of what’s wrong with them, it’s just kind of how it heals. And the guys, Trent especially, hasn’t been healing the way we hoped. Hopefully they’ve got a better chance next week. But they ended up never getting back into practice this week, so ended up not being that close.

However, a recent addition in the form of Deommodore Lenoir (knee) should worry the fans. Lenoir is arguably one of their best defensive elements in the Niners jersey. Lenoir will be missing his first game this season due to the injury – however, it didn’t look severe and he could make it back in a few weeks. Charvarius Ward returning to the squad could soften the blow of missing Lenoir. However, it has to be seen how the Niners are setting up with the limited players.
