The Arizona Cardinals (2-3) suffered a setback before their Sunday afternoon clash against the Indianapolis Colts (4-1). The Cardinals entered the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis without their starting quarterback, Kyler Murray, who was replaced by backup Jacoby Brissett.

According to Ian Rapoport, Kyler Murray sustained some form of Lisfranc injury and might miss the action for a few more weeks. The injury, first seen in cavalrymen in the early 1800s, occurs when the metatarsal bones in the midfoot are dislocated from the tarsus bones. This kind of injury is found in American footballers when there’s an external element acting upon their foot, like another player’s heel.

In the five weeks that have passed, the Cardinals’ starter has led them to two wins, completing 68.3% of his passes for six touchdowns and three interceptions. As a dynamic quarterback, he has also rushed for 173 yards and a score. In the last season, Murray led the Cardinals to an 8-9 record last season, missing the playoffs for the third time in a row. The franchise quarterback, who’s been a part of the team since 2019, is in his seventh season.

The Cardinals signed Jacoby Brissett in the offseason after they waived 2023 draftee Clayton Tune in August. Brissett, who’s on his seventh team, will be debuting later today against the Colts. Brissett was previously part of the Colts, from 2017 to 2020, and where he spent most time in comparison with all the franchises he’s played for. He even represented them in a playoff game.

Brissett was part of the New England Patriots last season, playing five games and winning just one of them. He threw for 826 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. The Cardinals also promoted Kedon Clavis, a former USC Trojans quarterback, from the practice squad in light of Murray’s injury update.

The wobbly Cardinals were underdogs against a scorching-hot Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts were in blazing hot form with five wins this season under a new quarterback, Daniel Jones, and a new management team at the top. The Colts were expected to outshine the wobbly Arizona Cardinals, who are now short of their starting quarterback. However, the Cardinals did put up a gritty performance against the favorites.

Brissett had won nineteen games as a starter, losing in 34 of them. The change in the quarterback wasn’t the only thing worrying the Cardinals. The last loss at the hands of the Tennessee Titans was a messy affair with fumbles and sideline drama. The Cardinals also headed into the Colts’ game with an awkward locker room.

The Colts have been led by Daniel Jones and the league rushing leader, Jonathan Taylor. Though Taylor has been the star of the show in most games, Tom Blair at NFL.com noted that it may be more of a Jones game rather than a Jonathan Taylor game. Blair pointed out to the fact that teams have been receiving stellar results when they are throwing the ball against Arizona rather than when they are running it.

In the past five games, teams have averaged 252.4 passing yards against the Cardinals while running it for an average of 92.4 rushing yards.
