The football world was surprised when the Arizona Cardinals decided to release their former No.1 overall pick, Kyler Murray, from his job as their starting quarterback.

Many wondered if the franchise had a plan in mind, as the prospects available in this draft, other than maybe consensus No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza, were not worthy of taking the risk.

However, it became clear that the organization was going into a full rebuild and was looking to create a new roster, albeit with a bridge quarterback taking over pass-throwing duties in the 2026 season.

On the other hand, the former Oklahoma alum was touted to have a few options as a free agent. Later, the options narrowed down, with the Minnesota Vikings becoming the frontrunner for his services.

That eventually became Kyler Murray’s new reality, and after the 28-year-old signed a one-year deal to play in purple and yellow, a reporter asked him if he had any memories as a childhood Vikings fan.

On the other hand, their former quarterback led his new team, the Seattle Seahawks, to win Super Bowl LX. Later, it came to light that head coach Kevin O’Connell wanted to keep Darnold, but 2024 No. 10 overall pick JJ McCarthy was GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah‘s preference.

The latter lost his job in the process, and the franchise is back to the drawing board, trying to figure out its best foot forward. Now, Murray gives them another option.

There is no doubt about the two-time Pro Bowler’s ability to throw the ball. Rather, it is his recent injury history that kept many teams away from contacting his agent.

The Vikings, however, have not signed Murray to the veteran league minimum just to see him back up McCarthy. The jury is still out on the third-year QB, which is why this signing should see both playmakers battle it out for the starting job.

With Kevin O’Connell’s brilliance in designing schemes, expect him to utilize those scrambling skills well enough to give his receivers enough time to get open. Finally, Justin Jefferson might shed his frustrations from last season.
