Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe was definitely one of the biggest moments in the summer transfer window. However, after 11 games for the Los Blancos in all competitions, things have appeared to take a wrong turn for the player.

Recently, Mbappe opted to not be called up for the national team and was excluded from the French squad that is set to face Israel and Belgium in the Nations League. The player suffered a muscle injury in September but made a return to the pitch for Real as they lost 1-0 to Lille in the Champions League.

As a captain, Mbappe must be an example for the fans, and he has not been. What emerges is that the real captain, Antoine Griezmann, is gone.

Fabien Bonnet, spokesperson for the Irresistibles Francais, told L’Equipe (H/T: ESPN)

Former France international Maxime Bossis said that Mbappe starting a game in La Liga and appearing in the UCL made things ‘fuzzy’ regarding his injury. The player has come under significant criticism for his behavior, and him being the captain, will have to answer for the same sooner or later.

The delicate situation is exemplified by the fact that France’s most ‘important’ player and captain, Antoine Griezmann, retired last week.

Didier Deschamps is reportedly surprised by Kylian Mbappe’s decision

Kylian Mbappe has been one of the most important players for France in recent times. The 25-year-old has scored 48 goals in 84 games and has also been named captain following Antoine Griezmann‘s retirement. However, his decision to not be called up for the upcoming Nations League games has reportedly confused head coach Didier Deschamps. In a recent interview, Deschamps revealed why he didn’t call up the Real Madrid man for the next two games.

We must not forget that the employer is not the club, but it is the federation. I know very well he will not go against the national team.

Didier Deschamps told Mundo Deportivo (H/T: MU)

Deschamps also clarified that the player has a minor injury which is not serious. Mbappe’s stats this season aren’t all that bad either, as he has scored 7 goals and an assist in all competitions. He sat out the Madrid derby a week ago due to injury, but has played in the last two games for Real. Madrid are currently second in La Liga with 21 points in 9 games. France are also second in their Nations League group and are second to Italy.
