When the lights shine the brightest, the best show up. FC Barcelona made the treacherous visit to Parc des Princes to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League. With the rich history and exhilarating clashes between the two teams, fans were expecting fireworks. However, PSG’s star man Kylian Mbappe was surprisingly not in his zone as he failed to make an impact on the game.

Statistically speaking, the PSG No.7 had a night to forget. Mbappe managed zero shots on target, missing one and another blocked! Surprisingly, only one of his five dribble attempts were successful throughout the game. His meagre 25% success rate in duels and having lost possession 13 times clearly depicted that the No.7 was missing his shooting boots on Wednesday night.

Adding to his regrettable display was how Pau Cubarsi, the youngest ever defender in a Champions League quarter-final, managed to keep Mbappe at bay.

An electric second half saw FC Barcelona put two past PSG, thereby securing a monumental away win against familiar rivals. Fans are thrilled and cannot wait for the second leg, set to be played less then a week later at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

A fan commented that Mbappe being silenced by a 17-year-old CB was ‘shameful’ to say the least. Many mocked him, saying that Real Madrid actually got a taste of their soon-to-be player.

Others laughed out loud as to how a prolific player like Mbappe could ‘blank’ against a bunch of teenagers. Despite Mbappe’s poor display, fans gave credit where it’s due – praising Pau Cubarsi at the back. Another got creative with his comment, saying that Mbappe switched to Ousmane Dembele and Dembele became Mbappe for this game.

Some said that Mbappe is only able to perform against the bottom-half Ligue 1 champion sides and not Barcelona. While Mbappe goes home thinking he could’ve done better yesterday, the No.7 will surely be plotting a game worthy of redeeming himself in Spain. Many rumors state that Kylian Mbappe has signed with (or will sign) with Madrid at the end of the season, and beating Barcelona in Spain will be a fitting introduction to the League.
