Real Madrid had nowhere to hide on Saturday night as rivals Barcelona ran riot on them at the Santiago Bernabeu. From failing to convert crucial chances to being constantly caught offside, Madrid’s star man and latest signing, Kylian Mbappe, found it very difficult to shine in his first Clasico. Fans around the globe mocked the Frenchman for his inability to remain onside and failing to score.

Mbappe benefited from the extremely high line that Barcelona employed on Saturday. However, even though the player found the net on multiple occasions, all were either flagged for offside or promptly overturned with a VAR check. Barcelona’s defensive pairing of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, along with Jules Kounde, who lived up to his promise, and Alejandro Balde did extremely well to keep Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. at bay throughout the game.

Inaki Pena also put in a shift between the sticks to make several reflex saves and deny the Frenchman a goal in his El Clasico debut. Mbappe was caught offside a record (personal) eight times during the game. He only managed to complete 13 passes and one dribble in the 90 minutes he played against Barca.

Fans mock Mbappe for poor showing in El Clasico

Real Madrid‘s No.9 was brought to the Bernabeu with high hopes in the summer. However, after a poor display against their biggest rivals, fans have turned on the former Paris Saint-Germain striker. A fan commented that Real shouldn’t have gone for Kylian Mbappe in the first place and that he isn’t half of what he used to be in a PSG shirt. A rival supporter mocked him by stating that Madrid PR is the only thing that’s holding him back from being exposed.

Some found it difficult to believe that a 17- and 33-year-old could team up so well in defense against one of the best in Europe. Pointing to how Mbappe and France were knocked out by Lamine Yamal in the Euros as well, a fan stated that the teenager is slowly becoming his biggest nightmare.

Mbappe has managed six goals and an assist in La Liga in 10 outings and will take to the pitch against Valencia in the coming week. The player hasn’t found the net in his last two games and only has one goal in October. Even though Carlo Ancelotti confidently stated that his side wasn’t ‘bad’ in the clash, Mbappe has a lot to do if he is to make a name for himself at the club.
