Rafael Nadal is one of the biggest names in the world of tennis. The 38-year-old legend turned heads as he linked up with one of the biggest names in football at the moment – Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman made his La Liga debut for Los Blancos in front of a packed Camp de futbol Son Moix on Sunday night. Despite the underwhelming result, Mbappe still managed to make headlines.
Despite netting in the UEFA Super Cup, Mbappe failed to score or assist against RCD Mallorca as the reigning La Liga champions dropped points on matchday 1. Following the full-time whistle, cameras followed the 25-year-old into the tunnel. What followed was labeled as a ‘historic’ moment by many on social media, as the Frenchman handed his Real Madrid jersey to the tennis legend.
Rafael Nadal himself is a die-hard football fan and is fiercely loyal to Real Madrid. The 38-year-old missed out on an Olympic medal at Paris Olympics 2024 after being knocked out by rival Novak Djokovic in the second round of Men’s Singles.
As for Mbappe, the Frenchman will face his next challenge against Real Valladolid on the 25th of August.
Kylian Mbappe makes costly ‘error’ leading to goal on La Liga debut
Things did not go to plan for Kylian Mbappe as the Frenchman took to the pitch for Real Madrid for the first time in domestic competition. The excitement surrounding the forward’s debut was so high that streaming companies had a dedicated ‘Mbappe cam’ to track every moment of the player’s debut.

However, the decision did not work in favor of the player and led to fans noticing the star making a costly ‘error’. Madrid were leading by a single goal when Mallorca won a corner kick eight minutes into the second half. Cameras captured the unfortunate monument where Mbappe seemed to lost track of his marker who eventually ended up heading the ball past Thibaut Courtois.
Despite his error, Mbappe did make an exciting run into the penalty box. He was eventually ‘brought down’ by an opposition player, although the referee did not award a penalty for his efforts. The former Paris Saint-Germain man also missed an important chance to poke the ball into the opposition’s near post. Fans across the globe trolled the World Cup winner for his underwhelming debut in Spain.
