Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappe finally opened his La Liga goal-scoring account for his new club, after striking a brace in a 2-0 win over Real Betis. The 25-year-old forward was quite relieved after scoring, as he also received a standing ovation from fans at the stadium.

The forward broke the deadlock in the 67th minute of the match, helped by a brilliant assist inside the box from Federico Valverde. Ten minutes later, he scored from the penalty spot to help the home side take the lead, marking his first brace in front of a packed Bernabeu crowd. The penalty was awarded after a Real Betis defender brought down Vinicius Jr. inside the box. His performance silenced critics, who had taken a dig at the Frenchman for disappointment in his first three La Liga outings.

Mbappe had made a summer move to Real Madrid, ending a seven-year long complex transfer saga. Fans had expected the French World Cup winner to start big, having been one of Europe’s top scorers over the past few seasons. However, his only goal until last night was one against Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup final. The recent goals against Betis, however, have now injected a newfound energy into the forward. It also lifted a massive weight off his shoulders after his brief-goal drought.

This win will, moreover, help the defending champions proceed into the upcoming international break with eight points from four games, remaining undefeated. Mbappe will now feature for the French national team, who face tough opponents in Italy and Belgium this week.

Bellingham recently suffered an injury, keeping him out of action. His exclusion from the side may even last for a month. The former Dortmund star has also not been training with the first team, after having suffered a plantaris muscle injury in his right leg. Club officials have highlighted Bellingham’s intent on making a speedy recovery in order to make a strong comeback.

He is also expected to be in the stands for Los Blancos’ first UCL league stage match against Stuttgart on 17th September. Bellingham’s absence remains a concern for manager Carlo Ancelotti, despite having backups in Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler and Dani Ceballos.
