At the All-Star weekend, Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and many other young players decided to get involved in the CBA negotiations with the WNBA. The goal is to get owners to give them the revenue share that they deserve.
Reese spoke about how she was shocked by how far away the players and their union were from getting what they wanted. A few moments before the All-Star game, all the players wore t-shirts with the words ‘pay us what you owe us’ emblazoned in the front.
Since Clark and Reese, the most influential players in the league, were up front and center of it, their stand gained traction. Along with that traction came criticism on social media and some radical news outlets.
Their opinion was primarily focused on the losses the league incurs every season. They believe that with those losses on their heads, it made no sense for the players to be demanding a pay raise. Kylie Kelce, wife of NFL and Philadelphia Eagles great Jason Kelce, had a different opinion.
A lot of people, when they take issue with these conversations, the people whose argument is ‘They don’t bring in as much money as the man’ can kick rocks, because that’s not what the WNBA is trying to do… They are just trying to get a higher percentage of the league’s revenue, which makes a lot of sense.

The mother of four daughters reiterated that the current revenue share the players enjoy was set when the WNBA’s revenue was minuscule. Over the last few years, that has changed, and so should their share of the new revenue about to come in.
Kylie Kelce details why Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and others deserve a larger share
Kylie Kelce continued to talk about the difference between what Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and other WNBA stars are looking for. She went on to explain why these women deserve to be paid a fair share of the revenue.

They are the ones who are creating the entertainment to bring in this revenue. They are why the fans are there. You’re not getting money unless those women are on the court. We need to compensate these athletes.
As per the 33-year-old, the women of the W are responsible for bringing in the new $200 million revenue from the upcoming media-rights deal, as well as the massive increase in ticket and merchandise sales.
Since the value of WNBA teams has soared 6 times since the last CBA, it is only fair that the women who have had a direct impact on that increase get their due. Kelce hopes these women, who are role models to young girls, can be appreciated for what they are worth.
WNBA has 100 days before Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and players force a strike
Kylie Kelce’s words might reach the WNBA, but they have less than 100 days to agree to a deal with its players. The October 31st deadline is fast approaching, with very little time left to organize major meetings like the one they had at the All-Star weekend.
Therefore, the onus will be on the union and its player representatives to lead the discussions. With their stand, the players have made it clear that they want to get what they deserve. However, there is a major difference between wanting something and getting it.
If the league continues to play hardball, all the social media support the players can garner will not make a dent. However, they can take it one step further by striking for the next season.
Work stoppages can force the hand of the league and its owners. Not only will they lose out on next season’s revenue, but they can also potentially destroy all the growth they have enjoyed so far.
On top of that, players could move to Unrivaled or other leagues abroad to compensate for their loss of income. All these negatives far outweigh the positives, and thus could lead to the league accepting a historic agreement.
