This development takes place just a few days after the controversy regarding the Department of Defense (DOD) and Jackie Robinson. A week ago, the DoD page dedicated to Robinson was removed by the Trump administration amid the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) purge.

Robinson is credited for breaking the color barrier in MLB. On April 15, 1947, he became the first African-American to play in the MLB. Before that, black skinned color players were relegated to the Negro Leagues. Robinson’s appearance for the Brooklyn Dodgers, ended the racial segregation in baseball.

Before this, Robinson also served in the US Army during World War II. As a result of this, a page was dedicated to him which reflected back on his time as an army veteran. This page was recently removed leading to huge public outcry. Following massive backlash, the page was restored.

Social media reactions to LA Dodgers accepting Donald Trump’s invitation to White House

Robinson spent his entire MLB career playing for the Dodgers while they were called the Brooklyn Dodgers. In his 10-year spell, he was named as a 6-time MLB All-Star and won the World Series in 1955.

After retirement, he became an executive of the team. As a result of his services to the team, fans were unhappy to see the team accept the invitation from Donald Trump after what had transpired. One user on X labeled it as “Incredibly disappointing“.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

On the 50th anniversary of his debut, Robinson’s No.42 was retired by every team across the league. April 15 is currently celebrated as Jackie Robinson Day in MLB, with every player, manager, coach and umpire wearing the No.42 on their back.

Dave Roberts addresses Dodgers’ visit to White House

Amidst the anger among the fans, Dave Roberts on Tuesday addressed the visit of the Los Angeles Dodgers to the White House. While addressing the media, the Dodgers manager claimed it was a “huge honor” for them to visit the White House and celebrate with Donald Trump.

It’s certainly a huge honor to get the invitation to the White House. It allows us to celebrate our 2024 championship. To my understanding, every World Series champion gets that honor, so it’s a great honor for all of us.

Dave Roberts said as per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN

Surprisingly, Roberts had declined to visit the White House to meet Trump in 2019 if the Dodgers had won the World Series that year. This was the last year of Trump’s first-term as the President of the United States. The Dodgers did visit Joe Biden after they won the Fall Classic in the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

For now, the Dodgers will turn their attention towards the home-opener against the Detroit Tigers on March 27. This will be the first match at the Dodger Stadium since they won Game 2 of the World Series against the New York Yankees last year and took a 2-0 lead.
